Ransom Canyon is Netflix’s first original Western drama that has featured in the streamer’s international top 10 list since its release
Ransom Canyon fans are eagerly awaiting news if there will be another season on the way but in the meantime, what else is there to watch?
Following the lives of three ranching families in a small Texas town, the 10-part Netflix drama watches as they not only compete for control of the land but how they navigate love and loss.
With the cast led by Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, Ransom Canyon has proved to be an early favorite after dropping onto the streamer just a couple of weeks ago.
Fans are crossing their fingers that season two will be given the green light after that unexpected cliffhanger ending but so far, there has been no word on its future.
So as they wait to find out if there will be more to come, here are five shows to keep viewers tied over until Ransom Canyon’s potential comeback
5 shows like Netflix’s Ransom Canyon
Outer Range

Western drama Outer Range is available to watch on Prime Video. (Image: PRIME VIDEO)
If Ransom Canyon’s Western vibes have got you in the mood for more cowboys then Outer Range on Prime Video is the way forward.
As the Abbotts family cope with the disappearance of their daughter-in-law, the neighboring Tillerson family makes a play for their land, leading to the arrival of “a mysterious black void” in the Abbotts’ pasture.
While there is a hint of supernatural twist to this Western drama, it is located in front of a stunning Wyoming backdrop, with a strong focus on the families.
And as Ransom Canyon stars actor James Brolin as Cap Fuller, Outer Range stars Brolin’s son and fellow actor Josh Brolin.
Godless

Fellow Western drama Godless is a limited series with an almighty cast including Dumb and Dumber’s Jeff Daniels, Sinners’ Jack O’Connell and Downton Abbey actress Michelle Dockery.
As gang leader Frank Griffin goes after his protégé Roy Goode, the latter finds refuge in La Belle, New Mexico, the now predominantly women-run town after a mining accident killed the majority of its male population.
Virgin River

Virgin River is Netflix’s beloved small town drama based on Robyn Carr’s novel series. (Image: NETFLIX)
Stepping away from the Westerns, Ransom Canyon is also a small town drama with a heartwarming love story, much like Netflix’s unforgettable Virgin River.
Based on author Robyn Carr’s book series of the same name, Virgin River sees nurse practitioner Melinda “Mel” Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) move to the remote Northern California town to start afresh.
It is here that she meets bar owner Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) and where their blossoming love story begins.
Yellowstone

Another popular comparison for Ransom Canyon is the iconic Western drama Yellowstone, brought to life by its mastermind Taylor Sheridan.
The neo-Western series delves into the lives of the Dutton family, the owners of the largest cattle ranch in the US who do everything they can to protect their land.
At the heart of Yellowstone, much like Ransom Canyon, it is a family drama, with actor Kevin Costner heading up the cast as the head of the household John Dutton.
As well as five seasons of Yellowstone itself, there are two prequels, 1883 and 1923, with more spin-offs on the way.
Friday Night Lights

Another fan-favorite small town drama is Friday Night Lights with the five-season series revolving around the lives of a high school football team and their coach in Odessa, Texas.
Ransom Canyon actress Minka Kelly also stars in Friday Night Lights as her character Lyla has an ongoing romance with fullback Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch).
