Authorities in South Carolina are investigating a deadly overnight crash that has left several dead, including a police officer.

According to the Greenville Police Department, two of its officers were involved in a head-on crash that occurred on Friday at about 12:45 a.m. on Highway 101.

Greenville authorities said Officer Diana Munoz was traveling with her wife, Sergeant Ashley Munoz, as passengers in a Toyota SUV when the vehicle collided with a Ford SUV.

The driver and passenger in the Ford both died at the scene, officials said. In the Toyota, the driver and two passengers were also killed, including Ashley Munoz.

According to the coroner’s office, Deborah Sue Wyatt, 50, and Max Douglas Wyatt Jr., 46, were the occupants identified in the Ford.

Maria Del Rosario Munoz, 62, was another person identified by the coroner’s office as one of the occupants in the Toyota.

According to Greenville police, Sergeant Diana Munoz was airlifted to a hospital, where she was listed on life support in critical condition.

The city of Greenville said Ashley and Diana Munoz were returning home from vacation when the crash took place. The couple has two small children.

Ashley Munoz was an 11-year veteran of the Greenville Police Department, while Diana Munoz was more than a 12-year veteran who was promoted to sergeant in 2022 and had served as the department’s public information officer.

Greenville authorities said a memorial for Ashley Munoz has been set up at the Public Safety Campus, where the public is invited to pay their respects and show their support for the Munoz family and the police department.

The Spartanburg County coroner’s office said it is working to notify the family of the last victim killed in the crash.
