Lauren Sanchez has shut down rumors of a rift with Mark Zuckerberg‘s wife Priscilla Chan after the pair were seen keeping a distance from each other during Donald Trump‘s inauguration in January.
Sánchez – who is engaged to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos – was in attendance with her billionaire fiancé but eagled eyed viewers couldn’t help but notice that the 55-year-old mostly kept her focus on her partner despite them being sat next to Zuckerberg and his wife.
The pair’s distance was all the more noticeable due to the fact Chan was happy to chat to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and chose to turn her focus elsewhere when her husband eventually sparked up a conversation with Sánchez.
Despite speculation of potential tension between the duo, Sánchez shared public well wishes as Chan celebrated her 40th birthday.
Taking to Instagram, Chan had shared pictures from her celebrations and wrote: ‘Turned forty surrounded by family, friends, laughter and dance. I am so so lucky to be so loved.’
Sánchez was one of many to flock to the comment section as she simply stated: ‘HBD [two red heart emojis].’
The move is a stark contrast from January 20 when Sánchez appeared to be avoiding making eye contact with the fellow tech wife during a tense moment caught on camera.
As Chan chatted to RFK Jr. and mingled with a handful of other political figures, Sanchez seemed less inclined to socialize, instead choosing to stick by Bezos’ side.

At one point, she looked up at the ceiling of the capitol before nudging Bezos and directing his attention to something upward, all while she closely grasped his arm.
Later, she was spotted in a friendly conversation with Zuckerberg, with some viewers suggesting that the tech guru was slightly too interested in Sanchez’s outfit choice, as some accused him of ‘repeatedly’ staring at her chest.
Chan didn’t participate in the friendly chit chat between Sanchez and her husband, instead turning her back to the pair as she conversed with others.
It’s unclear if the two women were able to chat or not, but their lack of interaction may be due to the seating arrangements inside the capitol.
Chan and Sanchez were both separated by Zuckerberg, and Sánchez seemed to keep her conversation limited to those directly next to her.
The former journalist’s Instagram activity comes after she made an ominous Instagram post about her difficult start to the year.
The children’s book author had posted the message on Instagram, complete with a photo of herself sitting in a helicopter and looking out the window.
In the snap, she wore a cleavage-baring cream tank top, along with a denim Chanel baseball hat and tinted Chanel sunglasses.

‘Some years start with turbulence, but that’s just the wind reminding you to spread your wings,’ the former Good Day LA cohost wrote.
‘Good to be back in the air… Here’s to flying farther than we ever imagined.’
It is still unclear exactly when the the couple are set to get married, as rumors flew last year that they were going to have a Christmas wedding in Aspen, Colorado.
Bezos popped the question to Sánchez in May 2023, while they were on vacation in the South of France.
When Bezos proposed to her, Sánchez admitted that she ‘blacked out,’ as he hid the ring box under her pillow after they had dinner on his yacht, per Vogue.
Their engagement came just four years after they went public with their relationship in early 2019.
Even without a date given to the public, Sánchez has dropped a few hints that she’s started to plan, revealing during a November 2024 appearance on TODAY that she was using social media platform Pinterest to get inspiration for her wedding.
During their Vogue interview in November 2023, Sánchez recalled the moment that Bezos proposed to her.

He hid the ring under her pillow, according to the Amazon founder himself, and she found it right before going to bed.
‘When he opened the box, I think I blacked out a bit,’ Sánchez told the outlet.
While speaking to the outlet, she also gushed about her future husband and entrepreneur’s shining personality.
‘He’s the life of the party,’ she said about Bezos. ‘He’s just extremely enthusiastic, and extremely funny. He can be really goofy. I mean, you’ve heard him laugh, right?’
