It’s been 10 years, several children, and an engagement since Irina Shayk and Cristiano Ronaldo broke up, but the model is still facing backlash from his fans.
Shayk, 39, dated the 40-year-old Portuguese soccer star from 2010 until 2015, but their association lives on in the Russian model’s social media comments, where trolls constantly name-drop Ronaldo, especially since the news of his engagement to Georgina Rodriguez.
A look through the comments section of any of Shayk’s recent Instagram posts will yield GIFs and comments that feature Ronaldo and Rodriguez, regardless of the subject matter of Shayk’s post. A post showing off her recent Vogue Brasil cover, comments about Ronaldo. A birthday shoutout to designer and friend Riccardo Tisci, more comments about Ronaldo. Shayk can’t escape.
This constant barrage is nothing new for Shayk. In fact, the model famously lost 11 million Instagram followers in 24 hours after news of her breakup from Ronaldo broke in 2015.
Yet, Shayk has remained tight-lipped about her ex and his obsessive fanbase.
Ronaldo announced his split from Shayk with a written statement, writing, “After dating for five years, my relationship with Irina Shayk has come to an end. We believed it would be best for both of us to take this step now.” He added, “I wish Irina the greatest happiness.”

Neither ever revealed what caused the end of their relationship, though rumors ranged from speculation that Ronaldo cheated on Shayk to rumors that she had a fallout with his mom, which was debunked by Shayk’s publicist. “She has been close with his family throughout the course of their relationship,” the publicist told Page Six. “Any negative rumors with regards to Irina and the Ronaldo family are completely false and have not been a factor in the cause of the split. Irina has no further comment at the time.”
A year after their breakup, Shayk cryptically spoke about relationships in an interview with Hola! Magazine. “If you have a relationship, it has to be a good one; otherwise, it’s better to let it go. Relationships are hard, so you have to make sure the kind of man you want by your side and what his values are, what is important in your life,” she said, adding: “Both have to share the same concept of what it means to be in a relationship and the same energy to create a monogamous relationship.”
Shortly after their split, Shayk started dating Bradley Cooper, with whom she welcomed a daughter two years later. They split in 2019, and she has most recently been linked to Tom Brady.
Ronaldo met Rodriguez in 2017. In addition to his son, Cristiano Jr., who was born in 2010 and twins Eva and Matteo who Ronaldo welcomed via surrogate in 2017, he and Rodriguez are parents to Alana, born in 2017, and Bella, born in 2022. They also lost Bella’s twin brother, Angel, in childbirth.
