‘Maxton Hall’ Season 4: What We Know About the Show’s Fate Beyond the Books

We’re in total denial that the end is near for Maxton Hall — The World Between Us. Or is it?
Just days after the romantic drama put us — and Ruby (Harriet Herbig-Matten) and James (Damian Hardung) — through that emotional rollercoaster of a Season 2 finale, Prime Video revealed that Season 3 has already completed filming. It will adapt the third book in Mona Kasten’s Maxton Hall trilogy, Save Us.
“I think we’re in a beautiful position of like… Having had Save Me, Save You, they’ve really fought for each other and fought for the love that they deserve, so it’s a perfect spot for the third, Save Us,” Hardung told Swooon. “That’s the two of them then against the rest of the world.”
Save Us wraps up Ruby and James’ love story, but that hasn’t stopped fans from calling for an additional season of Maxton Hall, even though next season’s premiere date has yet to be confirmed. When the Season 3 wrap was announced, the show’s head writer and executive producer, Ceylan Yildirim, addressed the franchise’s future head-on, including the possibility of expanding on the source material.
Will Maxton Hall get a Season 4?
Maxton Hall fans, it might be time to get a jump-start on the grieving process now. Yildrim didn’t immediately shut down the idea of Season 4, but she did tell Deadline, “Together with our partners at Amazon MGM Studios, we are always open to discussions. However, as things stand at present, there are no plans to do so.”
The showrunner’s December 1 comments echo what Hardung said a few days earlier. In an interview with Elite Daily, the actor teased that Season 3 will “beautifully wrap” up the story. For good measure, he explained that he’s not interested in returning for a fourth season even if Prime Video commissions it. “It’s a whole trilogy, right? The story arc is really made up for those three books,” he added. “Adding anything to that would destroy the story itself, so we want to stay true to the story and do justice to the books. Three seasons is the right way to do that.”

How do the Maxton Hall books end?
Long story short, Ruby and James do finally get their happy ending and their love prevails in the book — though not without some serious angst in the final stretch. Read Swooon‘s full plot summary of Save Us to get an idea of where the show is headed. Keep in mind, however, that Season 2 switched up quite a few story elements, which you can read up on here. It’s safe to assume that some surprises are still in store.
When we asked Hardung if that would be the case, he cryptically said, “With the first book, we really stayed very close to the original text. I think then the second book deviates a bit from it, but just out of necessity because you need to enrich and plot here and there. But overall, I think people have been really satisfied with the way it’s turned out, so I don’t know, I feel like we’re in a good spot for the third one.”
