Savannah Guthrie and her mother, Nancy Guthrie, on the set of Today.
Key Points
Nancy Guthrie remains missing; suspect seen on doorbell camera, investigation ongoing.
Authorities face challenges extracting DNA due to mixed samples from multiple people.
Law enforcement has not identified a suspicious car seen near her neighborhood February 1.
Pima County sheriff Chris Nanos provided an update on the case of missing 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie and revealed he believes “the investigators are definitely closer,” to finding the alleged suspect caught on a doorbell camera at Guthrie’s home.
The mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, remains missing more than a month after she was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills of Tucson, AZ on Jan. 31.

Former FBI Agent Points out ‘Concerning’ Detail
Jennifer Coffindaffer, a retired FBI agent, told Newsweek it was “concerning” that authorities have not yet released any further details about the suspect.
The FBI on February 10 released video from a doorbell camera showing a man wearing a ski mask, long pants, jacket and gloves on Guthrie’s porch on the night she disappeared.
“I think it is concerning that law enforcement has not made known any other details,” Coffindaffer said.
Nanos said authorities are still having challenges trying to process mixed DNA found at Guthrie’s property and suggested the mixture could be from “several” people, which would make it difficult to extract a DNA profile from one person.

Car Seen on Doorbell Camera Footage Raises Questions
During his recent interview Nanos was also asked about the doorbell camera video obtained by Fox News Digital that showed a car driving past a home in Guthrie’s neighborhood around 2.5 miles away from her home at 2:36 a.m. on Feb. 1.
“Look, what I would tell you is this: We’re aware of it, and we’re looking into it, just like any other piece of evidence,” Nanos said. “…We’re looking at that vehicle as well as hundreds of thousands of other vehicles that were out driving that time of day.”
Coffindaffer admitted that was another worrying sign.
“The takeaway from that was that law enforcement doesn’t have it identified,” she said. “And I think that’s concerning at this point because all those cars that are traveling on that road, which apparently are many during that time frame, it seems like right now it’s a dead end.”
She admitted the process of finding a license plate number or model of the vehicle “can take quite a while,” but she believes “based on the urgency of this case, that they’ve done that, and they still haven’t been able to identify it, according to the sheriff.”
