The Rip
The first must watch Netflix movie of the year will see Matt Damon and Ben Affleck reunite on screen for The Rip. According to the synopsis, upon discovering millions in cash in a derelict stash house, trust among a team of Miami cops begins to fray.
As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is called into question — including who they can rely on. Writer-director Joe Carnahan has already teased what viewers can expect.
He told website Tudum: “The Rip came out of a deeply personal experience that my friend went through, both as a father and as head of tactical narcotics for the Miami Dade police department. It’s inspired in part by his life and then, by my enduring love for those classic ‘70’s cop thrillers that really valued the character and interpersonal relationships and became touchstones of that era — films like Serpico and Prince of The City and more recently, Michael Mann’s Heat.”
The Rip is streaming on Netflix from January 16

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew will also see the cinematic return to the magical world found behind the wardrobe and created by author C.S. Lewis. It will be based on the novel of the same name, which was the sixth book in the series.
Barbie filmmaker Greta Gerwig serves as writer and director for the first outing set in the high fantasy world since The Chronicles of Narnia trilogy released between 2005 and 2010. No doubt Netflix will hope it kicks off another franchise. The likes of Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Denise Gough and Daniel Craig are all set to star.
