When it came time to film certain scenes of her new movie, Brianne Howey pulled from her own real-life experiences.
The Ginny & Georgia star, 35, shared in an interview with DC Film Girl that she recounts her own birth story in one of the scenes of her new movie Kinda Pregnant. Howey welcomed her daughter in June 2023 with husband Matt Ziering.
“Amy [Schumer] called me the night before and said, ‘Why is nobody talking about their birth stories?’ So that’s what we did,” Howey remembered. “Then the next day, we went to set and that’s my real birth story, actually.”
“So it was a really intimate, kind of in the moment felt a little bit risky, but very safe at the same time because it was just me and Amy,” she shared of her costar Amy Schumer. “And I’m so grateful to her for wanting to take a swing and really go big with that scene.”
In the scene, Howey’s character recalls her birth story, saying, “Everything went awry. I started bleeding out a lot. And [my baby] was on my chest, so I was actually in heaven. I was so fine. But I guess what was happening wasn’t okay. I was just losing a lot, a lot of blood. And it was the first time I saw [my husband] Steve scared.”
Schumer’s character then asks, “Did you think you were gonna, like, die?” Howey replies, “Maybe.”
Back at the beginning of January, Schumer spoke with PEOPLE about filming the movie with Howey, saying that there was at least one emotional scene she shared with the actress.
“Bri and I filmed a really special intimate scene sitting on the bathroom floor, and that was the most satisfying day of shooting for me as a woman and and artist,” she said. “But don’t get it twisted — you will cry-laugh watching this movie.”
In June 2023, Howey welcomed her first baby, revealing the news on Instagram. “My whole world just got a whole lot sweeter. And smaller,” she captioned a photo, where she lay in her hospital bed with the newborn on her chest and a smile on her face.
“Welcome my little love 💛,” she added.
The couple, who wed in July 2021 after having rescheduled their nuptials due to the COVID-19 outbreak, announced their exciting baby news in March, with Howey showing off her bump in a brown maxi dress.
“@boss show with my forever new +1 🥰🤎 thanks for having us!” wrote Howey in the post’s caption. “Loved every second of the new collection #hugoboss.”
