“The Abandons” is currently one of the top shows on Netflix, according to the streamer’s public ranking system.

Set in 1850s Washington, the western drama stars Gillian Anderson and Lena Headey as the matriarchs of two very different families — one privileged and rich, the other made up of orphans and outcasts — who “find their fates linked by two crimes, an awful secret, a star-crossed love and a piece of land with silver underneath,” the show’s logline states.

Despite trending among Netflix’s top 10 series, several critics have panned “The Abandons” for being a “half-hearted” “grab-bag of Western tropes” that embodies everything frustrating in the current TV landscape.

Now in its fifth season, the mockumentary sitcom continues to follow a group of passionate teachers at a Philadelphia public school determined to fight the odds against them and their students. The latest twist in the show’s mid-season finale, which aired on Dec. 10, revealed a change in scenery for forthcoming Season 5 episodes, which resume on Jan. 7.

The series stars Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, Janelle James and William Stanford Davis.

‘IT: Welcome to Derry’

“IT: Welcome to Derry” is currently the No. 1 show on HBO Max following its explosive season finale on Sunday.

The prequel horror series, which traces the events before the first “It” film, explores the origins of the infamous Pennywise the Clown (Bill Skarsgård) and the cursed history in Derry, Maine, after several children in town go missing under mysterious circumstances.

However, per the show’s logline, the two “suddenly find themselves in a complex conspiracy that reveals people long believed dead are still among the living, while the living are fast joining the dead.”
