SHATTERED LOVE: Kelsea Ballerini breaks silence on her severe anxiety after her explosive split from Chase Stokes 💔🔥
What looked like a picture-perfect romance crumbled in seconds — now the singer’s raw confession reveals the emotional chaos fans never saw coming.

Just two days after actor Chase Stokes posted a sweet birthday message for his girlfriend, country superstar and “The Voice” coach Kelsea Ballerini, the famous couple has split after three years together.
A spokesperson for Ballerini confirmed the news to People on September 14, 2025, and sources told the outlet, “They’re two adults who gave it their all and tried to do everything they could to make it work, but ultimately couldn’t. It happens.”
Kelsea Ballerini’s Instagram Feed No Longer Features Chase Stokes
On the afternoon of September 14, Ballerini’s Instagram feed no longer featured any photos with Stokes, best known for his role on “Outer Banks.” But she still appeared in many of the actor’s online photos — including his latest, a birthday tribute to the country singer.
On September 12, as Ballerini turned 32, Stokes posted a carousel of pics of them together, starting with one of them smiling at each other while sitting courtside at a Knicks game.
The actor captioned the post, “although you keep saying you’re not excited for 32, id say I’m lookin forward to more of this. happy birthday my love ❤️”
Stokes was not included in the photos Ballerini posted the day before, on September 11, which she captioned, “the last week of being thirty one was fun.” But he replied in the comments with a single emoji: “🥵”
Kelsea Ballerini’s Latest Post Revealed How Stressed She’d Been Before Her 32nd Birthday
Ballerini, who was a coach on season 27 of “The Voice” in the spring of 2025 and has said she’s open to returning “down the road” when the timing is right, featured photos in her birthday post of spending time at the U.S. Open, but also revealed she’d been experiencing “severe anxiety” in the last two weeks.
One of her posts showed a screenshot of her GAD-7 score, a scale used by practitioners to measure someone’s general anxiety disorder symptoms, according to the National Institutes of Health. A brief survey asks patients to rank how much anxiety they’re experiencing, from not being able to control their worrying to having trouble relaxing. Ballerini’s screenshot showed that she received the highest score, indicating “severe anxiety.”
Another slide in Ballerini’s carousel showed a meme with a woman wearing a bathrobe and scrolling on her phone. Above the pic, it said, “Me texting my best friend after I finish having a mental breakdown: ‘BUT HOW ARE U HOW HAVE U BEEN HOW ARE THINGS WITH YOU”
In October 2024, Ballerini released her latest album “Patterns.” She told Women’s Health that it was inspired by her mental health journey.
“I crammed so much life into my 20s, and I’ve done a lot of work to be able to stand by all that life, learn a lot from it, and appreciate all of it for what it’s been,” she told the outlet. “[‘Patterns’] is about finding the ones that serve you and appreciating and celebrating those, and then finding the ones that don’t—where they come from and how they relate to your interpersonal relationships.”
Ballerini was married for five years to country artist Morgan Evans, per Rolling Stone, and they went through a messy divorce in 2022. Ballerini began dating Stokes shortly after their split, and Evans is now dating “American Idol” alum and fellow country artist Laci Kaye Booth.
