Still, he’s one of the more self-aware characters in this Netflix series, so he recognized that his own problems made maintaining a healthy relationship with Ginny challenging.

Marcus said as much when Max questioned him about his decision after Ginny left. After he showed up at the doctor’s office, Marcus and Ginny resumed their friendship, and those added layers of romance came right back as well. This time around, Marcus didn’t fight it too much. However, their situation hadn’t really changed.

Ginny saw Marcus really hit rock bottom with his drinking at the end of Ginny & Georgia season 3. When she tried to surprise him in his bedroom, she saw that he was so intoxicated that he had wet the bed. His subsequent behavior really showed Ginny just how much Marcus needed help. So, while we didn’t see Ginny’s reaction to Marcus going away to rehab in season 3, she’s very likely to understand. Hopefully, Marcus will have gotten the help he needs by the events of Ginny & Georgia season 4, and this couple can finally have a healthier relationship.
