NEED TO KNOW
Season 3 of Ginny & Georgia sees the mother-daughter duo face bigger challenges than ever before as Georgia (Brianne Howey) is on trial for murder and Ginny (Antonia Gentry) feels like her family’s fate is in her hands
In a joint PEOPLE interview, Howey and Gentry break down one of the season’s most poignant storylines, which Gentry, 27, says “showcases how similar [Ginny] is to her mom”
“So much of what happens to these two characters is a reflection of each other,” Gentry says. “They’re mirrors of each other.”
Warning: This post contains spoilers for Ginny & Georgia season 3.
Ginny and Georgia really are two sides of the same coin, and season 3 of the hit Netflix series only makes that even clearer.
In the latest installment of the series, which premiered June 5 on Netflix, Georgia (Brianne Howey) is rocked by the news that her teenage daughter Ginny (Antonia Gentry) is pregnant — a twist that echoes back to her own teenage pregnancy, which turned her life upside down.
Ginny, who winds up pregnant after striking up a romance with Wolfe (Ty Doran) from her poetry class, decides to terminate her pregnancy shortly after learning of her condition, and her mom is completely on board with whatever her daughter wants.
“I think, for something like this to happen to Ginny, it showcases just how similar she is to her mom,” Gentry, 27, tells PEOPLE. “But also how differently she is [because she’s] able to afford to make a decision for herself.”

“So much of what happens to these two characters is a reflection of each other. I think we always have known that Ginny and Georgia are two sides of the same coin. They’re mirrors of each other,” Gentry says.
“I think that’s just ultimately what we wanted to underscore, was just the agency of these two women and how different they are and how they can make different choices,” she continues.
“Both are okay, whatever choice you make is okay so long as it’s you making the choice, you having the support to do so.”
On a personal level, Gentry is all for “women having choices over their bodies,” so she says of the abortion storyline for her 16-year-old character, “I am glad that we were able to do it in a way that didn’t really complicate that notion. It’s very much — this is a choice that she had to make, she made it and we didn’t linger on the details of that.”

It’s an arc that Howey, 36, also loves. “I loved so much, of course, the conversation that Ginny and Georgia have regarding this subject, but also the conversation that Ginny has with Zion,” Howey tells PEOPLE, referring to Ginny’s dad, played by Nathan Mitchell. “It made me cry. It’s so beautiful.”
For Ginny to have “the support of both of her parents” after making such a big choice for herself was something that mattered to Gentry, too.

“It’s absolutely gorgeous,” Howey says of how both Ginny’s parents react and handle the pregnancy — and the abortion. “It’s a really important conversation starter. I think we’re both grateful to the writers and the show for the grace and power that they handled this subject with.”
Ginny & Georgia season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
