Services announced for Emily Finn, West Sayville teen who died tragically

Services have been announced for Emily Finn, the 18-year-old West Sayville college freshman who died tragically on Wednesday.
Finn’s family requests that attendees wear a splash of pink in honor of her favorite color when they gather Sunday, Nov. 30, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home, located at 245 W. Main Street in West Sayville.
A church service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 48 Greene Ave. in Sayville.
“To honor Emily’s love of life, her family requests that those that attend wear a splash of pink, her favorite color,” her obituary says.
Finn, a lifelong West Sayville resident who graduated from Sayville High School in June, was a freshman at SUNY Oneonta studying Early Childhood/Elementary Education with a minor in Dance. An avid dancer, she loved ballet from a very young age.
She is survived by her parents, Cliantha and Ryan; her brother Kyle; and her “Nanny and Poppy,” Gerard and Joann Vanella, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends, according to her obituary at Raynor & D’Andrea in West Sayville. She was predeceased by her grandparents.
The family said that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Emily Finn’s name to The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, P.O. Box 90249, Austin, TX 78709.
Finn was killed Wednesday morning in an attempted murder-suicide in Nesconset.
Suffolk County Police said she was shot by her 17-year-old ex-boyfriend inside his home, where she had gone to return his belongings following their recent breakup. The suspect then shot himself in the face.
He survived and was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical but stable condition. He is expected to be charged with second-degree murder.
A GoFundMe campaign established by Heather Corcoran of West Sayville to support Finn’s family has raised more than $62,000 from more than 900 donations, with contributions pouring in from West Sayville and Sayville, as well as from across Long Island and beyond.
