Robert De Niro’s Zero Day is a certified global hit on Netflix, beating American Murder: Gabby Petito in many markets, and earning 19.1 million views. But the six-episode limited series told “a complete story,” according to co-creator Noah Oppenheim, and was only intended to be a single season. Despite its terrible critical and audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, a hit is a hit, and now the producers and De Niro are teasing a possible Season 2.
In a recent interview, Oppenheim, De Niro and co-creators Eric Newman and Mike Schmidt said that while the political thriller was a “one-and-done,” they have had conversations about continuing:
“I think we all feel like we have told what is right now a complete story. That being said, it’s a group of people that happen to like each other a great deal, and we all had a great experience making it. So Eric, and I and Mike often will chat about what would happen. What does happen to Alexandra Mullen, what does happen to Speaker Dreyer the next day? But there’s no active plan at this moment.”
Zero Day is now streaming on Netflix.
