A Black Adam vs. Superman concept trailer brings the iconic DC titans together in an epic cinematic crossover after the Black Adam post-credits scene tease. It has been nearly two years since Dwayne Johnson joined the DCEU movie timeline as Black Adam, best known as Shazam’s greatest enemy. One of the biggest unfinished plot points that was introduced in the post-credits scene of Black Adam was Johnson’s titular anti-hero coming face-to-face with Henry Cavill’s iteration of Superman.
While there were plans to have Superman and Black Adam fight down the line, the concept was quickly scrapped as Warner Bros. Discovery decided to reboot their DC brand on TV and in film. However, in a proof-of-concept trailer from Screen Culture, Cavill and Johnson’s DC characters finally face each other.
Pitched as Black Adam v Superman: Dawn of Justice II, the footage uses a lot of material from Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with Johnson’s character replacing Ben Affleck’s Batman. The story picks up sometime after their first meeting in the Black Adam post-credits scene, as the Man of Steel takes on Kahndaq’s protector.
How A Black Adam Vs Superman Movie Could Actually Happen
With the DCEU franchise officially over, DC Studios is currently focusing on making the new DC Universe their main priority, which will span across television, film, and video games. However, Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios are still keeping their Elseworlds brands rolling, with Todd Phillips’ Joker universe continuing this fall in Joker: Folie à Deux. Matt Reeves is also expanding The Batman universe with not only The Batman – Part II, but The Penguin TV show, as one of many spinoffs to come from his franchise.
Since the Elseworlds concept will continue within DC Studios, there is always the possibility of having a Black Adam vs. Superman movie with Johnson and Cavill happen in the coming years. Once the DC Universe has gotten beyond their Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” slate, the studio could revisit the DCEU continuity as an Elseworlds movie, which can easily be a one-off without having to recommit to that timeline again. By that point, DC Studios will also likely have been able to experiment more with other Elseworlds stories to know how to best approach a Black Adam vs. Superman film.
Whether or not Cavill and Johnson are up for reprising their characters remains to be seen, as the two stars are moving on to other roles and projects. However, if pitched under the right circumstances, there is always the chance they would agree to finally duke it out as Black Adam and Superman. But for now, the world will have to wait and see if a proper Black Adam follow-up ever becomes a reality.
