Kristen Bell revealed how she really feels about Leighton Meester—fellow Gossip Girl star and Adam Brody’s wife—joining the Nobody Wants This cast as the nemesis of Kristen’s Joanne.
Gossip Girl here, confirming these two former costars are ready to be back in action.
Shortly after Netflix confirmed Leighton Meester would be joining husband Adam Brody and Gossip Girl narrator Kristen Bell on season 2 of Nobody Wants This—as the returned middle school nemesis of Kristen’s character Joanne—Kristen revealed how she’s feeling about the news.
“Leighton Meester is blessing us with her presence,” the Frozen alum said in an exclusive interview with E! News at the Annual Power of Love Gala—held in Las Vegas Feb. 22—before adding that her entry “will be fun” because “she is not my nemesis” off-screen. (For more from the gala, tune into E! News tonight, Feb. 24 at 11 p.m.)
After all, IRL, the pair have no bad blood between them. In fact, Leighton and Kristen even joined forces during the Feb. 23 SAG Awards—which Kristen hosted—for an epic nod to their Gossip Girl roots.
Reprising their roles as the voice of the anonymous gossip blogger and Blair Waldorf, Kristen narrated “gossip” about the SAG Award attendees fed to her by Queen Bee Blair.
For instance, Kristen claimed Wicked’s Jeff Goldblum had “a wicked appetite and a peek behind the curtain reveals he likes his green eggs with ham.”
But when she began to announce A Complete Unknown’s Timothée Chalamet was sitting next to a “hot steak medium rare au Poivre,” Kristen hit pause the bit.
“Wait, Leighton, none of this is gossip,” she noted, turning to Leighton as the cameras found them in the audience. “It’s all food.”
And Leighton couldn’t help but cough up to the ruse. “I’m sorry,” she admitted, while shoving a dinner roll in her mouth. “I’m just really hungry.”
The hilarious bit only proves Leighton’s casting on Nobody Wants This—which sees Adam play Rabbi Noah, who falls in love with Kristen’s Joanne—will be something everybody is going to want.
The casting also marks yet another time that Adam and Leighton—who married in 2014 and share two kids between them—will work together. Having already worked together on projects such as The Oranges, Single Parents and River Wild, Nobody Wants This is sure to be another epic collaboration.
As Adam told E! News in January, “We always like to work together when it comes up.”
