Netflix has just added a series that ‘you won’t be able to stop watching’, as fans dub it ‘perfect for binging’.
All seven seasons of Younger are now part of Netflix’s US catalogue and it could soon become one of your top shows. While it was previously accessible on other platforms and has garnered an audience abroad, like through Amazon Prime in the UK, its inclusion on the streaming behemoth is anticipated to attract new viewers.
The series centres around Liza, a woman in her forties, portrayed by Sutton Foster, who after a tumultuous divorce is left with nothing but debt. As her daughter gets ready to move out and start her own life, Liza decides to reboot hers.
She embarks on a fresh career in publishing but struggles due to her age, eventually pretending to be younger to advance and make new friends along the way, including Kelsey, played by Hilary Duff.
Younger is based on the 2005 novel of the same name by Pamela Redmond Satran, a former fashion editor at Glamour. In a chat with the magazine, she once admitted that the inspiration for the story came to her while reading about extreme plastic surgery, reports the Mirror US.
However, her protagonist only pretends to be younger rather than resorting to drastic measures to appear so. The TV adaptation was brought to life by Darren Star, the creative mind behind Beverly Hills, 90210, Sex and the City and the Netflix hit Emily in Paris.
After landing on Netflix, the die-hard followers of the series are rallying viewers to give it a try, praising it as utterly binge-worthy with warnings of potentially finishing all seven seasons within mere weeks.
A devoted fan shared their thoughts online, writing: “The perfect easy watch show but you get sucked in instantly and won’t be able to stop watching. Have been binging for last two weeks. This show makes me feel like I need to move to New York and have a life I never thought I’d want for myself; a wild New York life like Liza and Kelsey with Josh and Charles! Oh my. LOVE THIS SHOW!”
Adding their voice to the chorus, another viewer said: “This show is addictive, the characters are fantastic and the actors do them justice. So many moments of hilarity yet also comes with some serious sides to it.”
A third fan couldn’t help but draw parallels to an iconic ’90s sitcom: “It is crazy how much I love this show; I enjoy every episode and it twists me in every time. My emotions are so captured into all the characters. I have not binged a show ever until this one. Reminds me of how much I loved watching ‘FRIENDS’ every night as a teen. Great!”
Nevertheless, one spectator confessed to having a gripe with the show’s central concept, stating it failed to dampen their overall viewing experience. They divulged: “OK I just binge watched this series and I have developed a love hate relationship with it. I hate the premise that anyone would believe that woman was 20 anything however I got sucked in because I so wanted her to get busted.”
Another individual praised the series as one of their speediest watches ever, expressing their enjoyment online: “One of my favourite shows! light hearted but still keeps you invested. characters and development are great. You’ll binge all seasons in record time.”
