After the poor reception of American Horror Story: Delicate left viewers wanting more, a new horror anthology series has emerged as the new standard.
A returning horror show with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score is a great American Horror Story replacement. Since premiering its very first season back in 2012, American Horror Story has maintained its status as one of the longest-running horror anthology series currently on television. While some seasons of American Horror Story are certainly better than others, American Horror Story: Delicate, the series’ twelfth and most recent season, was rated as one of the worst in the entire franchise.
One of the most common frustrations that viewers had with American Horror Story: Delicate was the fact that it left so many unanswered questions that weren’t answered in the season finale. Apart from American Horror Story: Delicate’s unanswered questions, the finale was also noticeably short, which raises disappointments and uncertainty about the status of the franchise moving forward. American Horror Story season 13 was confirmed back in 2020 as part of a multi-season deal, but depending on how it fares with audiences and critics, it could end up being the last season.
THEM: The Scare Is A Great Horror Anthology Replacement For American Horror Story
Them: The Scare recently released a brand new, critically acclaimed season
For viewers who were frustrated by American Horror Story: Delicate, a great alternative with a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score is available to stream now. Them: The Scare is the second season of the critically acclaimed Amazon original horror series, Them, which was subtitled Covenant and was released back in 2021. Them: The Scare was released in its entirety on April 25, 2024, and has since generated very positive critical reviews and audience feedback despite feeling somewhat under the radar to the general public.
Like American Horror Story, Them is a horror anthology series that is the perfect replacement for the disappointing recent season of AHS. Them: The Scare follows an LAPD Homicide Detective named Dawn Reeve who investigates a gruesome murder in a foster home. The star of Them: Covenant, Deborah Ayorinde, returns for Them: The Scare in a new leading role. The series has quickly risen up the charts of Amazon Prime Video, becoming the second most popular new series on the platform in May 2024 after the celebrated Fallout.
Why THEM’s Reviews Are So Much Better Than American Horror Story’s Recent Seasons
Them has elevated themes and better overall execution
Them: The Scare’s reviews have collectively praised the series for being a gripping portrait of psychological horror while commenting on complication themes such as institutionalized trauma and systemic racism. In this way, Them: The Scare elevates itself from a traditional horror by grounding itself in a clear and powerful perspective. American Horror Story: Delicate, however, has created an uproar among longtime fans of the franchise, with much of the criticism falling on the decision to cast Kim Kardashian. Them: The Scare carries the torch for great anthology horror series where AHS left off.
