Sofronio Vasquez makes history, gives message to Filipinos after ‘The Voice’ USA win

Fresh from his big win at the finale of The Voice USA, Sofronio Vasquez has a message for all his Filipino fans.

The New York-based Filipino was greeted with a congratulatory embrace by The Voice coach Michael Buble.

“I’m so happy, what can you say to all your peeps out there? What can you say to all your Filipino followers, they love you…in Tagalog, dude,” Buble told Vasquez, encouraging him to greet Filipinos in his native language.

The Voice USA grand champion Vasquez said, “To all the Filipinos out there, maraming maraming salamat po sa suporta niyo. To my hometown–Utica, New York, you guys are the best. Thank you so much, I can’t wait to go home and celebrate and bring the trophy.”

On December 10 (US time), Vasquez made history after being announced as the grand champion of The Voice USA, making him the first Filipino and Asian to receive the recognition.

During the final round, Vasquez sang “Unstoppable” by Sia and “A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman.

Vasquez was born and raised in the Philippines and moved to Utica, New York where he worked as a dental assistant.

He was also a semifinalist in It’s Showtime “Tawag ng Tanghalan.”
