The TV wedding of the year was promised by the Virgin River finale – but fans had some rather brutal comments about happy couple.

After years of ‘will they, won’t they’ storylines, Jack and Mel finally said ‘I Do’ in the much-anticipated final episode of series six. Of course, as with most things in the fictional north Californian town at the heart of the show – nothing is ever plain sailing in Virgin River.
So we’re highly doubtful the pair – played by Martin Henderson and Alexandra Breckenridge – will be drifting off into the sunset together anytime soon, and we’re promised the twists and turns we’re used to in season seven, which was announced by show bosses at the end of 2024.

But it turns out some fans might not be so upset if the main character roles – Mel Monroe and Jack Sheridan – were done away with altogether.
Viewers know that the show premise shifted after season one, allowing more of an ensemble to fill each episode rather than just focusing on just Mel and Jack. With a stellar cast of fan favourite characters including Brie Sheridan (Zibby Allen), Tim Matheson (Doc), Annette O’Toole (Hope McCrea), Dan Brady (Benjamin Hollingsworth) and Mike (Marco Grazzini), there’s never going to be any complaints about that.
But some fans would be happy to go one step further and move on with the show without Jack and Mel, according to one Reddit thread dedicated to all things Virgin River.
One viewer said: “I think Virgin River is the brie and Brady show. I hear more people talking about them then mel and Jack. Which by the way there is Zero chemistry between them as the seasons went on. Even their kissing and intimate scenes seem off. They are not sexy. I’m over mel and Jack.”
One replied: “Just give me more storylines with Muriel and the sewing circle. Overall I find the senior cast more enjoyable anyway.” And one said: “Lol Mel and Jack are very predictable and plain.”
Season six may have brought the wedding (some) fans have been waiting for, but there was still heaps of fraught drama happening amongst their friends and family in the finale.
During Mel’s bachelorette party, a tipsy Brie snuck off to send Brady a voicemail, confessing she can’t stop thinking about him despite breaking things off with him due to his drug dealing. Later on, they meet up to talk about it and find it impossible to resist each other, betraying their new relationships with Mike and Lark.
Although the season finale featured its fair share of twists and turns, Mike not only getting down on one knee to propose but also revealing that he knows Brie and Brady slept together was the shocker that had everyone talking.
