Fans share their opinions on what would happen if Lucerys Velaryon lost an eye because of Aemond Targaryen in House of the Dragon.

Aemond Targaryen and Luke Targeryen

It’s clear that Lucerys Velaryon’s death pushed the Dance of the Dragons to happen, but what if Aemond Targaryen did not kill him in House of the Dragon? Fans would remember the Prince Regent’s hatred for his nephew because of that one incident in Driftmark where the latter slashed at his face, eventually blinding his left eye (the right one in the book).

If the events were reversed, and Aemond got the upper hand, eventually blinding Luke, what would be the judgment? Will Viserys Targaryen punish him or be lenient through and through? There are so many possible outcomes that could be explored had it happened the other way around.

What Could Have Happened If Aemond Took Lucerys’ Eye

Of course, the writers of House of the Dragon won’t go as far as switching the situation between Luke and Aemond. After all, the latter’s eye patch and sapphire eye are his signature style. There have been a lot of modifications that have happened over the past two seasons – and fans are not happy about it – but it’s also interesting to see what the narrative could be had Luke lost an eye.

On Reddit, several fans believed Viserys would still do nothing about it, just like when Luke went unpunished after hurting Aemond. Alicent Hightower demanded an eye for an eye, a suggestion the king ignored to avoid further conflict.

Some also think Aemond would end up receiving punishment simply because Rhaenyra was Viserys’ favorite child. Since the king does not endorse violence, he would simply send his son to Oldtown, the home of the Hightowers, to pursue a calling he isn’t keen on.

There’s also another thought involving Corlys Velaryon that if he wanted to push this issue further – as his grandson and future Lord of the Tides was assaulted in the halls of Driftmark – he could seek justice for what happened. Viserys won’t be able to ignore this, especially if Rhaenyra supported Corlys’ demand.

Another possible outcome had Luke was the unfortunate one who lost an eye is that Rhaenyra would demand punishment. But, since Viserys would still be very chill about the situation, it would prompt the Realm’s Delight to use this to reassert her power in court. She will use Luke’s injury and Aemond’s accusation that her children are bastards to destroy the Hightowers.

Aemond Held Grudges Against Those Who Remained Silent

Ewan Mitchell previously discussed the controversial scene with Total Film and revealed Aemond’s thoughts after losing his eye.

Aemond had forgiven the fact that Luke took his eye out, he just wasn’t over the fact he got away with it. And that’s not partly down to Lucerys, that’s partly down to that scene, when a lot of adults held their silence in that scene.

This is exactly the interesting part, especially if it happened the other way around. Everyone in the room seems to favor the Blacks over the Greens, so if Luke was the victim, they might have come up with a decision or judgment before the night ended.

House of the Dragon is currently available to watch on HBO.
