It’s a must-watch for The Exorcist fans.
Last year was quite fruitful for horror flicks, and you may have seen at least one of them. These include M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin, A24’s Beau Is Afraid and Talk to Me or Blumhouse’s sensational video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s.
However, there was a lesser-known horror that truly deserves much more attention than the mentioned titles, as it elevates the genre to a new level. Luckily, it is now getting significantly more viewership, as it’s conquering Netflix ’s global top 10.
Its plot revolves around Pedro and Jimmy, two brothers who find a man who gets infected by a mysterious demon in a nearby farmhouse. Understanding that he’s about to give birth to evil itself, the brothers try to exorcise the tormentor, but fail to do it.
It is high time to get rid of the body, but Pedro and Jimmy’s recklessness leads to the whole epidemic of possessions in their village, and they’re forced to confront the evil.
This synopsis may seem typical for the genre, but the more the story progresses, the more you start to see that it marks a high-class addition to the possession horror canon.
Therefore, it can easily compare with such staples of the subgenre, as The Exorcist franchise, in particular, its controversial recent installment, The Exorcist: Believer (2023), and A24’s possession hits Hereditary (2018) and Talk to Me (2023).
Titled When Evil Lurks and produced by Shudder, this horror is considered to be one of the most inventive scary flicks of 2023. Moreover, it is claimed to display “one of the most horrifying scenes” of recent years, as voiced by Redditor @AimeeM46.
You’ll be definitely blown away by it if you enjoy horrors about possessive demons.
“It builds a unique lore with a creative new ruleset for handling these awful, awful creatures,” concludes @Dead_man_posting.
Luckily, you can check out this horror gem right now, as When Evil Lurks is available for streaming on Prime and Hulu .
