About a month after Lucasfilm and The Walt Disney Company scrapped “the gayest Star Wars” project ever in The Acolyte, actress Aubrey Plaza and other members of the cast are promoting Agatha All Along by describing it as the gayest Marvel project.

Variety asked her, “I’m told. I hear. I’ve seen the first episode. But Agatha is the gayest Marvel project yet. Do you agree?”

Plaza responded, “It better be because that’s what I signed up for. I think it is.”

Plaza would later claim that the show will be “a gay explosion by the end of it.”

Plaza was not the only to promote the Marvel Studios production as gay. Actress Sasheer Zamata also agreed that the show is the gayest project Marvel has ever done. She said, “I would agree with that.”

When asked to explain why, she said, “You’ll see. You’ll see when you watch it. But I think witches are queer inherently just because we are outcast and set aside for many reasons. And, I think, this show shows a really good representation of different types of people and that we can all use the power that we have within to go forth and be great.”

Actor Joe Locke also agreed the show is the gayest Marvel project to date. He explained, “It’s got many layers. Definitely gay is one of them.”

When asked about being in two gay shows back-to-back, Locke said, “I think that’s also one of the great things about the show is that Heartstopper the queerness is the plot of the show whereas this is like Teen’s (Locke’s character) queer, there’s queer characters in the show, but it’s not like the driving force of the plot, which I think is really great. It’s really nice having these positive queer characters in the show. It’s great.”

Showrunner Jac Schaeffer reacted to the show being described as the gayest Marvel show saying, “I will take that and I will love that and I will tuck that under my pillow at night. That’s what I will say. I will say this show is about love, it’s about found family, theatricality, it’s about nastiness.”

When asked what kind of nasty, she said, “The good kind. The fabulous kind. The well-styled kind. That’s our show.”

Marvel Studios Casting Director Sarah Halley Finn confirmed that Marvel wanted a queer person to play the role of Teen in the show.

She said, “We did want to cast that role authentically and let’s also be honest this is a character who is a teenager. So this is not a question we’re going to ask teenagers to come out and have to answer. It was just more about here’s the character, we’re looking to cast it authentically, please submit an audition, and we’re going to take it from there. Joe [Locke] did an incredible audition.”

All of this promotion comes just over three months after The Acolyte showrunner confirmed that The Acolyte was the “gayest Star Wars.

In an interview with TheWrap, Headland first feigned surprise that making Star Wars gay would not be a talking point. She said, “Is it going to be a talking point?”

Actress Amandla Stenberg then chimed in saying, “Because nerds are gay.” When TheWrap’s interviewer stated, “Well, some nerds are very not gay and are very threatened by gay stuff.” Stenberg responded, “Well, that’s true. But in my world nerds are gay.”

When asked if this was the fun element, Headland responded, “No, I don’t think so and yet people have told me that it’s the gayest Star Wars and I am frankly … into it.”

Next, Amandla Stenberg declared, “I think Star Wars is so gay already. I mean have you seen the ‘fits. We’d be like look how gay this is and send each other a reference photo.”

Headland then said, “And are you telling me with a straight face that C-3PO is straight?” TheWrap interviewer responded, “They’re a couple. That’s what I think.” Headland then declared, “I think it’s canon that R2-D2 is a lesbian.”

A month after the show premiered its season 1 finale, The Acolyte was cancelled by The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm with Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva reporting, “The story of The Acolyte will not continue, with Lucasfilm opting not to proceed with a second season of the Star Wars offshoot starring Amandla Stenberg, sources tell Deadline.”

The show had abysmal ratings with the series finale only bringing in 335 million minutes. That was less than the 2-episode premiere which only managed to bring in just 488 million minutes watched.

It will not be surprising if Agatha All Along suffers the same fate as The Acolyte.
