Saber Interactive’s Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits shared that following the success of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2’s success the developer is discussing plans for new story DLC as well as a potential sequel.
Back on September 11th, two days after the game had its full release, Willits shared details on X regarding just how successful the game was. He wrote, ” Todd Hollenshead (former CEO of id Software) and I believe that Space Marine 2 is the fastest selling game we’ve ever worked on, including all the Quake, DOOM, Wolfenstein, and RAGE games over the years. #SpaceMarie2.”

This came in the wake of Focus Entertainment announcing on X that the game had sold at least 2 million copies. The company shared, “TWO MILLION Space Marines have joined the fight to protect the Imperium in Space Marine 2. We’re so grateful!!”

Furthermore, the game hit a peak concurrent of 225,690 players when it launched back on September 9th. While it has not achieved those levels since, the most recent 24-hour peak hit 99,115.
According to Willits, this success has led to discussions about new story DLC as well as a sequel.
He told IGN, “Our game director Dmitry Grigorenko, he has proposed some story ideas that could either be DLC or a sequel. We’re literally just catching our breath. This is two weeks out. We just need to get the dust to settle. But I can confidently say that we will not disappoint our Warhammer fans in the future.”
“It’s too big of a success! I know that’s an obvious thing to say, but hopefully we’ll be working on Space Marine content for a long time,” he added.
Speaking specifically to a sequel, Willits shared, “We just have to figure it out. I would love to do it, yes. Yes, yes, yes! There’s so many different factions… there are other chapters, too, that are interesting…”
Willits also indicated that Saber plans on supporting the game for the long-haul and explain how the company will follow the same model it used for World War Z.
He shared, “One of the reasons why we got 25 million people in World War Z is because every time we release a new DLC pack or a free class and we had a sale, people buy it. We literally see a spike. We put out a video promoting a new character pack, we see a spike in sales. So it just drives attention and drives awareness.”
“There’s always one guy that says, ‘guys, come on, there’s new stuff coming up.’ And then, ‘okay,’ so three other people are like, ‘it’s only five bucks, let’s buy it.’ And so you get this kind of group FOMO thing going on that really helps. And we had so much success with that model. That’s what we’ll do,” Willits explained.
Focus Entertainment also shared that the team is working on developing new classes for the game in a recently published Q&A.
The company relayed, “That is definitely something we are heavily discussing. Adding a new class is quite heavy on production as we also need to create all the customization, PVP Chaos model variant, and animation set depending on what we go for. We’ll keep you updated about this topic.”
There will also be new melee weapons, “New melee weapons would definitely be an extremely cool addition. Making a weapon and designing it is fine, but we need to make all finishers animations for it. It will take time.”
What do you make of Willits’ revelation that Saber is already looking at new Story DLC or a possible sequel for Space Marine 2?
