‘Agatha All Along’ premiered a few days ago with its first two episodes, delivering exactly what dedicated fans had been anticipating from the marketing. The show fully embraces its campy charm, seamlessly blending witchcraft, pop culture references, and humor.
With a strong foundation, it keeps viewers entertained and engaged, leaving us eager to see if Agatha is in for a Loki-style redemption arc in the upcoming episodes.
The show debuted with a solid 72% critics score, maintaining its freshness, but it initially dropped to as low as 65% before bouncing back. Currently, the critics score is at an impressive 80%, while the audience score stands at 81%.
This performance significantly outshines recent Disney+ miniseries like ‘Echo’ and ‘Secret Invasion.’
However, the situation looks different on IMDb, where the show is currently rated 6.8 from nearly 8,000 ratings—a strong showing for a series that just premiered.
Anticipated review-bombing efforts were in play even before the release, largely due to comments from the cast and crew, as the show prominently features LGBT representation.
Joe Locke, who plays the teen in the show, revealed that he has faced backlash for being a gay actor portraying a gay character in a campy series.
Aubrey Plaza called it the “gayest show” yet, hinting at a romance between Rio Vidal and Agatha. Sasheer Zamata, who plays Jennifer Kale, along with showrunner Jac Schaefer, discussed how the series represents the persecution of marginalized groups, similar to the historical persecution of witches.
While some fans are dissatisfied with the current reception of ‘Agatha All Along,’ the show has always aimed to be a campy magical adventure for a specific audience, likely not intended to attract a mass following.
Despite this, the show continues to thrive, and we’re eager to see how the ratings evolve over time. What did you think of the ‘Agatha All Along’ premiere? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
