The relationship between Rio Vidal and Agatha was one of the most mysterious parts of the show. When Rio was first introduced in episode 1, there was a lot of chemistry between them, and even before it was officially confirmed, fans sensed there was more to their story.

In episode 4, we learn that they were in a relationship, but it ended sadly, turning them into bitter enemies. Agatha seemed to want nothing to do with Rio, while Rio described Agatha as her “scar.”

If you guessed that Agatha is angry at Rio because she played a part in her son’s death, you were right.

Episode 9 of ‘Agatha All Along’ takes us back several centuries. We see Agatha heavily pregnant and about to give birth. Agatha’s world falls apart when she sees Rio approaching, which means her child likely won’t survive the delivery.

This is interesting because it suggests they weren’t in a relationship at that time; Agatha seems surprised to see Rio, and we don’t know who Nicholas Scratch’s father is. But that’s less important.

Rio looks heartbroken about what she’s about to do and makes a deal with Agatha. She can’t heal Nicholas, but she can give him more time. This leads to Agatha and Nicholas traveling around and killing witches to buy him a few extra days of life. It worked for a while, but eventually, it stopped.

Clearly, Agatha and Rio had some kind of deal about time, not just power. It seems that Rio wanted specific types of souls, possibly because she couldn’t harvest witches without help, and Agatha was a perfect fit.

Since Rio admitted that Agatha is “running out of time” and received “special treatment,” it’s clear that Rio delayed taking Agatha for as long as she could, as long as Agatha continued to bring in souls.

Agatha could have lived for a very long time if she had delivered her next target, Billy. It’s unclear if Agatha is now free from her deal with Rio since she is dead and in ghost form, but we can say for sure that Rio is no longer after Billy.

Rio mentioned that balance needed to be restored, and since both Agatha and Billy were unnaturally “alive,” one had to go—both couldn’t exist at the same time.

It’s also very likely that Agatha was meant to die along with her son, and her deal with Rio wasn’t only about Nicholas. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
