Disney’s Snow White is coming out next year and what was initially a highly anticipated project is now projected to become the biggest controversy of 2025 even before 2025 even started. The production has been plagued with issues and there has been one controversy after another, and it seems that it is not stopping.
Recently, the movie’s star, Rachel Zegler, was once again at the center of controversy after her post-election comments, for which she had to apologize recently. Her posts caused yet another PR scandal for Disney, even though the company is viewed as being pro-Democrat politically, so damage control measures had to be taken.
Amidst this, Forbes reported that the film’s budget blew up over the course of the production and is now so high that there is a lot of pressure on the movie to become a success. Based on everything we know now, this is a very unlikely scenario.
First things first, let’s go over the PR crisis that came about. We know that the recently-held US Presidential elections caused a lot of controversy. Among the people who commented on the results was Zegler, who was, as you will soon see, very disappointed by what happened and she decided to blow out some steam on social media:
I find myself speechless in the midst of this. Another four years of hatred, leaning us towards a world I do not want to live in. Leaning us towards a world that will be hard to raise my daughter in. Leaning us towards a world that will force her to have a baby she doesn’t want. Leaning us towards a world that is fearful.
I shouldn’t be this shocked. But I am. I am heartbroken for my friends who awoke fear this morning. And I am here with you. To cry, to yell, to hug. To was poetic on how the left continues to fail us in forging a new path forward. This loss should not have been. And it certainly should not have been by so many votes.
I echo Ethel Cain’s statement more than anything. May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.
There is also a deep, deep sickness in this country that is shown in the sheer amount of people who showed up for this man who threatens our democracy. It is terrifying the number of people who stand behind what this man preaches. It is a foolish subscription to a false sense of security, of masculinity, of intelligence, of patriotism, and of humanity.
There is no help, no counsel, in any of them. I could go on. I won’t. I feel sad, you probably do, too. Fuck this.
These comments appeared on Instagram, and while the original postings have since been deleted, images of them are available on X, as you can see (there are more posts there as well):
Regardless of ideology, you can imagine this becoming a major PR scandal for Disney, and in order to calm things down, Zegler issued a public apology on her official Instagram account, stating the following:
Hi everyone, I would like to sincerely apologize for the election post I shared on Instagram last week. I let me emotions get the best of me. Hatred and anger have caused us to move further and further away from peace and understanding, and I am sorry I contributed to the negative discourse. This week has been emotion for so many of us, but I firmly believe that everyone has the right to their opinion, even when it differs from my own. I am committed to contributing positively towards a better tomorrow.
This will certainly help things move forward from this, but we have also said that Forbes revealed her upcoming film’s budget rose to a staggering $269.4 million, which means that the movie will have to earn more than $500 million to be considered a profit.
This, of course, puts enormous pressure on the production and everyone, so considering everything, it is more likely than not that the movie will not attain these numbers, which means that Disney should be preparing for a loss here as well. The movie might surprise us, but with all these controversies… it is unlikely.
