In February of next year, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will finally land, taking players to Feudal Japan.

It’s not a locale the series has ventured to before which is surprising, because we’ve travelled to practically every other corner of the globe.

Egypt, Cyprus, Italy, Spain, the Caribbean, France, England, and the United States are just a few of the countries this series has taken us to.

The upcoming Assassin’s Creed Hexe will add another locale to the list, taking us to 16th century Germany.

Much about this particular title remains a mystery but it has been confirmed that the game will deal with witchcraft, starring a female protagonist.

Of course, I may have been exaggerating when I said we’ve travelled to practically every other corner of the globe.

There are still many setting options that developers could utilise, with one fan suggesting that it might be fun to have an Assassin’s Creed game set in the Wild West.

This suggestion comes from Reddit user noah_the_mighty, who wrote, “I think it would be really cool to explore the history of the American west in the AC world. There are so many different outlaws and cowboys during the time period who would make both awesome enemies and surprising historical figures as templars and assassins.”

They continued, “I’m fully aware somebody probably came up with this in the past. I’m not trying to steal this as my own idea, I’m just saying it would be crazy and really awesome.”

I like this idea at first glance but having sat here a few minutes pondering, I’m wondering how the openness of the Wild West would gel with Assassin’s Creed’s penchant for stealth gameplay.

It feels as if there might be some major hurdles to overcome, and I’m not the only one feeling torn.

“The main weapon in the era wasn’t blades, but guns. It would turn into a third person cover shooter,” said an unsure viniremesso. “For parkour, would be a worse setting than Valhalla, and Vahalla setting for parkour is horrible.”

“A Wild West AC would have very wide streets and not that much verticality, and I doubt the cities would be that big either,” added Kiribaku-.

It’s a conundrum I’m not sure developers could overcome so perhaps Red Dead Assassin’s Creed isn’t on the cards, but never say never.

We’ve ventured to America before so perhaps a short Wild West segment isn’t totally out of the question.
