Black Myth: Wukong’s rumored budget is way less than Concord which was Sony’s most expensive failure in the history of the company.

A recent rumor has surfaced regarding Black Myth: Wukong’s development budget, and the figure has turned out to be quite surprising. It is being believed that the game was made in just 1/10th of Sony Concord’s budget, which shut down weeks after launch.

Black Myth: Wukong is shaping up to be a great game. It has sold over 18 million copies since its launch. The game is one of the best contenders for the Game of the Year title.
Black Myth: Wukong Was Made In Less Than Industry Standard

The recent figures that have been revealed indicate that Black Myth: Wukong was made in an amount that is way less than the industry standard that major AAA titles have established in the recent past. God of War: Ragnarok was made in $200 million, Cyberpunk 2077 was made in $313 million, Spider-Man 2 was made in $315 million, whereas Black Myth: Wukong is rumored to have been made in approx. $40 million.
If this figure is, in fact, true, then it is fair to say that the game was made in a much smaller amount as compared to the other AAA titles out there. To think that a Chinese game gets made in such a small amount is absolutely commendable.
However, it is also fair to account for the low labor costs, cost of living, and lower average salary, which might have contributed to the low cost. Nevertheless, even after accounting for all this, the cost of the game is still quite low.
This is the first game from the Chinese developer Game Science. The studio was earlier focused on making mobile games, and this is the first time it has transitioned towards making AAA titles. Game Science has established itself as a component studio. People are expecting a lot more from it in the future.
Concord Does Not Even Come Close To Black Myth: Wukong

Concord is Sony’s biggest failure to date. The game was budgeted around $400 million, which is a lot of money. A game with 1/10th of its budget is not the biggest contender for the title of Game of the Year. Black Myth: Wukong has surpassed most AAA titles before it, and it seems to be going in the direction of more success.
Concord, on the other hand, failed to maintain player count after a week of its release and had to be shut down permanently just a couple weeks after launch. This is a direct indication that more money involved is not directionally proportional to the scale and size as well as the success of the game.
A game with a low budget can also be the one that leaves a mark on the industry and makes a special place in people’s hearts. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments below.
