Black Myth: Wukong Passes Yet Another Impressive Sales Milestone

Black Myth Wukong passes yet another impressive milestoneBlack Myth: Wukong has become one of the best-selling new games of 2024 as it boasts 20 million copies sold during its first month. Having launched back in August, Black Myth: Wukong garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews and sold a whopping 10 million copies in its first three days, with a peak of three million concurrent players. The Journey to the West-inspired action title has already become a Game of the Year frontrunner next to the likes of Final Fantasy 7 RebirthLike a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and Helldivers 2.

Despite frequent comparisons to games from the Souls genre, like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Elden Ring, the structure and gameplay design of Black Myth: Wukong is markedly different, as it focuses almost entirely on its massive boss fights. Black Myth: Wukong has only been made available on PlayStation 5 and PC, with an Xbox Series X|S version supposedly in the works at developer Game Science. The reason for its Xbox delay has been disputed. Black Myth was initially believed to be held back on Xbox due to roadblocks with the Series Sbut more recent reports have pointed towards an exclusivity deal that may have been quietly signed with PlayStation.

With Tokyo Game Show 2024 currently underway, there’s been a lot of big news coming out surrounding games like Overwatch 2 and its crossover with My Hero Academia, and some of the classic Mana games making their way to Xbox Game Pass. During a Black Myth: Wukong panel at Tokyo Game Show, former PlayStation CEO Ken Kutaragi revealed that the title reached another impressive milestone, selling a head-spinning 20 million copies in just one month across PC and PlayStation 5. With this, it’s clear that Black Myth: Wukong has become one of the fastest-selling new games of 2024.

Black Myth: Wukong Has Sold 20 Million Copies In Its First Month

This incredible feat is even more impressive when considering the fact that Black Myth: Wukong is only available on two platforms, PlayStation 5 and PCFor reference, FromSoftware’s 2022 open-world masterpiece Elden Ring only just recently reached 25 million copies sold this June after the launch of its celebrated Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Add to this the fact that Elden Ring has been available on more platforms since its release, and it’s easy to see just how popular Black Myth: Wukong has become. Black Myth’s sales numbers are guaranteed to balloon even higher once it lands on Xbox Series X and S.

It’ll be interesting to see whether Black Myth: Wukong earns one of the spots in The Game Awards’ 2024 Game of the Year nominations list in a few months. Beyond that, Game Science has confirmed that it’s working on DLC for Black Myth: Wukong, which is aiming to release sometime in early 2025 and will surely give another boost to the game’s already stunning sales numbers. As for the Xbox release, nothing concrete has been confirmed by Game Science thus far.
