Emilia Clarke recalled the time Jason Momoa became protective of her on the set of Game of Thrones.
Emilia Clarke and Jason Momoa’s friendship on the set of Game of Thrones proved beyond the intense scenes they shared on screen. Despite the controversy that the actor got himself into upon making an insensitive joke, he showed his genuine care for his female costar.

Playing Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo, respectively, Clarke and Momoa seemed to have shared a bond that made them protective of each other especially when performing risqué scenes. The Aquaman star even wept in between takes for reasons that remained shrouded in secrecy.
Emilia Clarke Raved About Jason Momoa Taking Care Of Her On Game Of Thrones Set
Game of Thrones had its way of showcasing the brutal and barbaric life of the Dothraki tribe led by Jason Momoa’s Khal Drogo. When Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen was sold for marriage by her brother in exchange for an army, she became the victim of abuse on her own wedding night.
The actress was only in her early 20s when she debuted in the first season, and being fresh out of drama school with no experience, the thought of baring it all and performing intimate scenes on camera was too daunting.
She later found a support system in her costar. Momoa, who had enough experience in the show business, made sure Clarke felt safe and protected. In her conversation with Dax Shepard on the Armchair Expert podcast, she revealed the actor took care of her. “He was always like, ‘Can we get her a robe? She’s shivering!” after shooting scenes where she had to be exposed.
The actress realized how lucky she was to have an attentive and caring costar like Momoa. “He was so kind and considerate and cared about me as a human being,” she added. The actor previously admitted he was repulsed doing those graphic scenes because he didn’t want to traumatize Clarke.
The 37-year-old English star wouldn’t disclose the reason but she said Momoa was such a softie that he would cry when they perform the intimate scenes. However, this story somewhat contradicts the actor’s alarming statement from a 2011 interview that earned him global criticism and forced him to issue a public apology.
Jason Momoa Apologized For An Offensive Joke He Made At Comic Con

In 2017, an unearthed video of Momoa speaking at a Comic Con event in 2011 heard him claim how he loves the fantasy genre because he can do anything in it including “rip someone’s tongue out of their throat and get away with it and r*pe beautiful women” (via The Guardian). The actor later publicly apologized for his insensitive joke.
The marriage of Daenerys and Drogo was short-lived after the latter died of poison. This is a great shame because the pair started to become fans’ favorite couple, although it was necessary to push the Mother of Dragons’ storyline forward.
Game of Thrones is currently available to watch on HBO.
