From follows a group of people who have become trapped in a mysterious town that is stalked by murderous creatures every evening. At the end of season 2, Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) discovered a way out, only to return with another resident’s father (Robert Joy) shortly into season 3. This has turned everything upside down, as the townsfolk now believe they can also escape the horrors they have been dealing with for so long.

Catalina Sandino Moreno made her screen debut as the title character in Maria Full Of Grace, and is well known for her role as Luisa Leon in The Affair. She has been a part of From since the beginning of the first season. Robert Joy joins the cast for season 3 as Victor’s father, Henry, who is shocked to learn that his long-lost son is still alive. Joy has nearly one hundred and fifty acting credits, known for Land of the DeadThe Hills Have Eyes, and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem.

Screen Rant interviewed Catalina Sandino Moreno and Robert Joy to talk about the events of From season 3. Catalina Sandino Moreno revealed what it was like for her to get to explore the outside with Tabitha, even if it was not for as long as she would have hoped. Robert Joy shared that he was most excited to get to film scenes with Victor actor, Scott McCord, and was eagerly awaiting to film their reunion.

Exploring From’s Outside Was Miserable For Tabitha & For Catalina As An Actress

Tabitha is extremely confused when she finally escapes the town, and Catalina was freezing cold while filming.

Screen Rant: Catalina, what was it like to get to explore the outside with Tabitha?

Catalina Sandino Moreno: Well, as you can see, it’s pretty miserable for many reasons. The character still doesn’t know where she is. She’s still confused. In reality, you go through a tree, and then you’re in the hospital, and then you wake up, and then you’re in the outside. That’s a little bit weird. And as an actress, it was the coldest day in Halifax I’ve ever experienced in my life. Everyone had to feel that they were in summer, so I think the weather was really a challenge this season, but I think it just gives a little bit more of a personality of the show. But it was not enjoyable.

Robert Joy: Tabitha was physically beaten up, too. She fell, and got cuts and bruises, so it’s miserable. And then it goes from bad to worse. Once you meet me, more bad things happen.

Screen Rant: You don’t believe her at all.

Catalina Sandino Moreno: No, how could he believe me? “What do you mean?” I went through a tree, and now I’m in the hospital on the outside. It’s the same as Henry’s going through, I think. “What do you mean my son that I haven’t seen in so many years is stuck in a town? Where is the town? You can’t tell me where it is?”It’s a little dodgy.

Robert Joy: She encounters me when I’m trapped in my own world of hurt, so I’m miserable. I’ve kind of deteriorated, I get the feeling, with alcoholism and not taking care of the house and despair. She reaches across worlds, right? She reaches from one world to another. And it’s only logical that it would take time for me to give her any credence.

Robert Joy Was A Big Fan Of From Before Joining The Cast

“I was a fan. By the time I stepped on the set, I had watched the 20 episodes that led up to my episode.”

Screen Rant: What was it like for you joining the cast, Robert?

Robert Joy: Well, it was an incredible experience. The experience of the actor is very much like the experience of the character. Do you know what I mean? So it’s strange. I’m stepping into a company that’s already been established. And it’s already really impressive.

I was a fan. By the time I stepped on the set, I had watched the 20 episodes that led up to my episode, so it felt very much like what happens in that episode, where Tabitha reaches across from one world to another, and we both say to each other, the subtext is, we can actually help each other through our pain. And she and the rest of the company helped me into the circle.

The Phone Call Between Tabitha & Her Mother Was Not Initially Written

“At the beginning, there was [a reference to] Tabitha calling her mother, but we didn’t see that phone call.”

Screen Rant: How did it feel when you read tjay she’s going to go right back to this town?

Catalina Sandino Moreno: Listen, I was hoping I was going to be Bahamas when I woke up. I remember season two telling John, wouldn’t that be great if she wakes up in a Caribbean location? It would be so much fun and so unexpected. And he’s like, of course, back into town in episode three or four. I hope, or I was wishing that she would have stayed on the outside a little bit more because all her outside stuff is suffering.

She still doesn’t understand why she is there. There clearly has to be a reason why, but there’s never time to just get an ice cream, to sit down and relax and breathe and take it all in. It’s okay to feel happy that you’re outside, even though your family is stuck. You are going to get help, but for right now, just have a little sparkling water.

Robert Joy: Tabitha’s call to her mother was so heartbreaking because she gets to tell her mother that she’s alive. And there’s excitement in the audience when we see that. But then the heartbreak that you can’t explain to her what’s going on, or you can’t see her, or you can’t go to her.

Catalina Sandino Moreno: That phone call was not written. At the beginning, there was Tabitha calling her mother, but we didn’t see that phone call. And I remember just saying to John, “Listen, something bad happens, I call my mom. Something good happens, I call my mom. Something medium happens, or I’m happy, or I’m sad, or anything. The first person I call is my mother.”

Can you imagine just calling your mother and your mother telling you, “Where are you?” And you’re like, “I can’t tell you. I love you.” It’s heartbreaking. The whole situation is heartbreaking because my mother is not going to believe me. My mother is going to be like, “Give me your address. I need to pick you up, and we’re going.” It’s an unbelievable situation that she’s in. You know, you’re a mom. You want to take care of your children. But I think Tabitha’s mind is in another place. Her mind is going, “I need to find answers. I need to find a way out. I need to help my family.”

Robert Joy Was Delighted To Get Stuck In The Town During From Season 3

“As an actor, I was delighted, because I had come to especially admire Scott’s work as Victor.”

Screen Rant: Robert, how fun was it for you to get stuck in the town and get to experience that side of the show?

Robert Joy: I tell you, when I read it in the script, that they see the tree on the road, I felt this kind of weird sinking feeling in my stomach. I said, oh, here we go. But as an actor, I was delighted, because I had come to especially admire Scott’s work as Victor. And so I just thought I’m going to finally get to have scenes with this actor, and with the whole company. And as I say, I became a fanboy by the time I showed up on the set.

So I felt like it was a big prize, like a big birthday present for me to get to join FROM town. And thank God that I didn’t have to actually worry, like the character has to worry, about being pulled by some monstrous figure.

Catalina Sandino Moreno: It’s lovely to have Robert join the cast because the cast is pretty young and they’re very excitable. Well, Robert shows up with a book, reads the book. Okay. Action. He just goes and does his thing. Again, read the book. I love that. I think that’s so cool that he just goes there, does his thing, and then he just goes back and just reads a book. His energy is so calming. His energy is so funny.

I have a little funny story about Robert that everyone needs to know. Robert is a very easygoing human. And as Henry, I think he’s a joy to work with.
