The long-awaited second season of Arcane is finally out – completely – and fans are now able to take in all the emotions and plot revelations. Some moments from Season 2 were criticized, but all in all, the general impression is that Arcane ultimately delivered a strong story and that fans want more of the same.

And as we are waiting for the confirmed projects to be produced, we are going to discuss the season at hand and some of its important aspects. We have already reported on numerous of these, but in this report, we are going to focus on some of the political aspects of the season.

Namely, Arcane is known for its LGBTQ+ content, which has been embraced by fans as something normal and natural. However, unlike the majority of the fans around the world who got to see these scenes, the Chinese fans of the series are seemingly seeing a different version of the series that takes away a lot of the emotions.

China is known for its strict censorship rules. And while we’re not going to elaborate on why that is, we are going to say that many Western shows, but also Japanese anime, have been victims of censorship in China.

Most recently, some scenes from Dandadan were edited for the Chinese market, and now, Arcane has also become a victim of Chinese censorship if Twitter fans are to be believed.

As you can see, all LGBTQ+ scenes between the characters have seemingly been edited by the Chinese censors, which is why Chinese fans will never be able to fully enjoy the emotional scope of the series and the finer intricacies of the interpersonal relationships, which is one of the highlights of the show in general.

There is nothing that can be done in that aspect, and Chinese authorities will keep censoring such scenes, but it is a bit sad that fans from China cannot experience the full scope of work because these scenes are not just romantic or sexual nature, and not at all ideological.

They are, in fact, prime examples of great character development that show just how much time the writers invested in crafting the stories of all these characters, so it’s a shame that a large number of fans will not be able to see these scenes.
