This all culminated in the season 4 finale — season 4, episode 6, “Wedding” — in which the wedding day arrived, Mark finally realized he was lying to himself, and he had to figure out a way to not get married while saving face. What follows is one of the most uncomfortable (and most hilarious) half-hours of television ever produced. Peep Show has an even more horrifying, more difficult-to-watch wedding than the infamous “Red Wedding” from Game of Thrones.
Peep Show’s Wedding Episode Is A Masterpiece Of Cringe Comedy
Season 4, Episode 6, “Wedding” Is An Anxiety-Inducing Nightmare
From Mark having violent diarrhea in front of his boss to Jez dancing alone at his own green-card wedding, Peep Show is jam-packed with cringeworthy moments. The cringe comedy in Peep Show is so excruciating that it makes David Brent and Alan Partridge look like normal, socially acceptable human beings by comparison. That cringe humor reached its peak in “Wedding,” which opens with Super Hans throwing up in Mark’s top hat and only gets more excruciatingly uncomfortable from there.

As the wedding guests start flooding in and Mark still isn’t sure if he wants to go through with it, he and Jez flee to the rafters. When Jez complains about needing to pee, Mark encourages him to wet himself and it seeps through the floorboards onto the unsuspecting guests below, which gives away Mark’s hiding place. He tries to play it off as a prank and he’s forced down the aisle, where both he and Sophie burst into tears during the ceremony. It’s a masterpiece of comedic escalation; things just keep getting worse and worse.
Peep Show’s Wedding Episode Is The Opposite Of Most Sitcom Wedding Episodes
Where Most Sitcom Episodes Are Uplifting, Peep Show’s Is An Unmitigated Disaster
From Mitch and Cam’s wedding in Modern Family to Sheldon and Amy’s wedding in The Big Bang Theory, wedding episodes are usually an uplifting celebration of love. Before Peep Show came along, the most awkward a TV wedding got was when Ross said the wrong name at the altarwhen he married Emily in Friends — and that was nothing compared to the anxiety-inducing horror of Mark and Sophie’s wedding in Peep Show. Peep Show’s bride and groom don’t really love each other and their wedding is an unmitigated disaster.
