The makers of Cyberpunk 2077 have operated GOG for many years now, and every now and then, they will drop a free game on us.

This is your alarm call to head over to GOG and claim The Whispering World, which is currently free to keep and download for the next 48 hours.

I’m going to admit, this is not a game I knew about before this, but I spotted it was made by Daedalic Entertainment who were knocking out a few good hits for a while.

The Whispering World is a ‘point-and-click’ adventure game where fairy tale elements mix with melancholic topics for a game that balances light and dark.

You play as Sadwick who is haunted by a mysterious blue orb as his world crumbles around him – it’s the end of the world and Sadwick is the reason for the doom.

It’s up to you to figure out why the world is ending and if it can be prevented.

Visually stunning, the game uses a cartoon aesthetic to channel European art styles seen through the 1970s and 1980s.

This is the special edition of the game, so Sadwick’s adventure is fully updated with a brand-new ending and a developer commentary.

All you need in order to claim the game is an account for GOG, and you’ll simply need to claim the giveaway, whereby the game will be added to your library.

Winner of over 30 game awards in Germany, The Whispering World seems a sublime adventure that will stay with you forever.

With in-game achievements, and a short playtime of 10 hours, this is a great little game to squeeze in over the Christmas break if you’re looking for something brief but lasting.
