Sometimes, movie audiences feel that Hollywood should leave well enough alone. That seems to be the current sentiment among the millions of viewers who have streamed the trailer for Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White, set for release in 2025. The dislikes on the studio’s YouTube channel have already exceeded one million, and there is no sign of slowing down.
Snow White Remake A Bust?

To add insult to injury, the Snow White remake is showing a disproportionate number of fans that have given the thumbs up on the channel. A mere 80,000 users took the time to hit the “like” button, a devastating ratio by comparison.
Add in the 50,000+ comments that are mostly negative, and you might have an accurate forecast for a rare big-budget box office bomb by Disney’s studios.
Snow White Remake Budget Over $200 Million

The Snow White remake spent a production budget that exceeded $200 million, so it’s going to be quite an interesting uphill climb for the animation giant to break even with ticket sales. But the casting might give Walt Disney Pictures the boost it needs to give audiences a surprise hit.
The announcement of Gal Gadot portraying the Evil Queen and Golden Globe Winner Rachel Zegler in the starring title role are big assets for the production. Though it seems as if these attributes might be all that fans have been giving positive buzz about.
Too Heavy On CGI?

Snow White has long been regarded as an animation masterpiece and a feature-length production that put Walt Disney Productions on the map as a legitimate studio. The remake aside, fans have loved the characters since they first hit the theater screens in 1937 in what became one of the most beloved Disney offerings.
The live-action Snow White remake might have used live actors, but it’s been revealed that the production relies heavily on CGI. And while this detail has made some prospective audiences skeptical, there have been other issues with the upcoming film that have generated a great deal more controversy.
Rachel Zegler Is Snow White

Rachel Zegler stated that the Snow White remake is a politically correct version of the classic, the latter of which was criticized by the actress as being “strange” and necessitated a retelling that was more modern and with feminist values.
However, it was actor Peter Dinklage’s comments about the film after its announcement that led Disney to make changes that severely altered the storyline and its characters.
Other Snow White Controversy?

Dinklage, who has a form of dwarfism, told Marc Maron during an interview in the comedian’s WTF podcast, that the remake was a “backward story.”
This culminated in Disney totally reimagining the seven dwarves. While one of the actors does indeed have a form of dwarfism, the remaining six do not.
This decision might have made some happy, but there were many actors in the community who went on the record stating that this move cost many qualified people a great acting job.
Snow White Remake A Bust?

The advanced criticism from Hollywood actors and the gross reactions to the trailer leaves many skeptical about how well the Snow White remake will perform. Time will tell when the film is released to the public on March 21, 2025.
