‘Dragon Age’ Writer Poured Heart and Tears into Dorian’s Story

David Gaider, the creator of Dragon Age, shared insights into the emotional journey of writing Dorian’s character. Dorian Pavus, a mage from the Tevinter Imperium, stands out as BioWare’s first exclusively gay male party member.

Gaider, who is openly gay, found Dorian’s story deeply personal. He described the writing process as profoundly moving, stating he ‘probably cried harder than I ever have in my life’ while crafting Dorian’s narrative.

Dorian’s character challenges the norms of his homeland, the Tevinter Imperium, which is known for its strict traditions and views on perfection. His decision to defy these societal expectations and embrace his true self adds depth to his role in the game.
