In The Rings of Power season 2, episode 5, Elendil and the plight of Númenor were given much more of a focus. After being questioned by Míriel about what vision he was presented by the Palantír, Elendil reveals he saw himself riding away from Númenor to an unknown destination, the city seemingly burning in the distance. Míriel takes great optimism from this, insisting that Elendil’s vision could mean her own premonition of the great wave is no longer a possibility in the future. Regarding what it means for Elendil personally, the possibilities are consequential to T he Rings of Power‘s timeline.

In Tolkien’s stories, Elendil eventually leaves Númenor to settle in Middle-earth. There, Elendil builds the kingdom of Arnor, while his sons, Isildur and Anárion, found the kingdom of Gondor. Another possibility of Elendil’s vision in The Rings of Power season 2 is the inclusion of Anárion. Anárion is the younger brother of Isildur, yet has not been part of the Prime Video show thus far. In The Rings of Power season 1, it was confirmed that Anárion left the capital city of Númenor to dwell on the island’s western shores where his family was originally from, teasing a potential reunion with Elendil in the future episodes of The Rings of Power season 2 or beyond.

It was said that the people of western Númenor are more faithful to the old ways and friends of the elves, explaining Elendil’s openness to do the same. In Elendil’s vision, it is not confirmed where he was traveling to. However, it could be revealed that Elendil was heading west in the vision to reunite with his youngest son, who will eventually sail to Middle-earth with him.
