Despite the fact that she was introduced later into the story and was initially a villain, Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. Scarlet Witch, became one of the most popular and most beloved characters in the whole MCU, as well as one of the characters with the best story in the whole franchise.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness gave us what seemed to be the closing chapter in Wanda’s story, as the character seemingly died; Agatha All Along seemingly confirmed this, but the series intentionally used the word “gone” instead of “died” when referring to Wanda.

In the meantime, there have been numerous rumors about her possible return.

The actress herself has explained that she would like to return, but the overall situation related to Wanda has been quite unclear, although it seems that the actress’ recent comments suggest that she might be coming back to the role at some point, but no one is allowed to confirm anything!

As mentioned, Wanda seemingly dies in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. After WandaVision, she begins researching the Darkhold and uses the cursed book to find a way to reunite with her presumed dead children.

The only way to bring them back is through an alternate universe, but for that, she needs America Chavez’s powers. Wanda ultimately starts targeting America, and Doctor Strange realizes that the attacks on the girl are connected to Wanda.

By the end of the movie, Wanda understands that her struggle against fate is pointless and that the Darkhold has transformed her into someone unlovable, even to her own children.

In a moment of clarity, she collapses the temple on herself, destroying the Darkhold spells carved into its walls and, consequently, eradicating every copy of the Darkhold that exists.

A corpse resembling Wanda’s was seen in Agatha All Along, implying that she was, indeed, dead, but the series used the word “gone” instead of “died,” and that was intentional, as was confirmed by the crew of the series. This is a strong indication that Wanda is not really dead, and that opens up the possibility of her returning at one point.

This is in line with the recent rumors we’ve had and reported on, although they were pretty inconsistent, to be frank. Initially, we heard that a solo Scarlet Witch movie was in development; it was everything, from a prequel to a tie-in to the upcoming Avengers movies.

Not that much later, the idea had supposedly been scrapped. At the same time, rumors about Wanda having a major role in Doomsday and Secret Wars began to surface and… well, we know nothing really.

During a recent Q&A, Elizabeth Olsen was asked about Wanda’s return and the actress might have cleared things up a bit:

“Well, honestly, if I were to tell you exactly what I would want I think I would maybe be spoiling something. Kevin Feige genuinely asks us what we want to do with the character and then he does it [Laughs] so I don’t know if I can share…I just want to come back.”

This is in line with what we’ve been hearing – there are rumors, but nothing can be confirmed at this point. As for Olsen, she really does want to return due to her special relationship with the character, as these statements confirm:

It’s a character I love going back to when there’s a way to use her well and I think I’ve been lucky when I started I was used well, and they kind of didn’t know what to do with me for a second there! If there’s a good way to use her, I’m always happy to come back. (…) I think so. I assume as much.

Yeah, and there was a red light of explosive energy. I think I’m dead. I would beg to leave a window open. I had so much fun doing these movies. I would like to figure out how to cleverly be undead. We need to find the smartest writers to figure out how to make this all make sense. I’m open to ideas.
