The Game of Thrones star doesn’t enjoy having the blame for her recent project pinned on her as the fans of the actress are trying to defend her in the debates.
Marvel’s been bombarding the audience with new projects for the past few years, and admittedly, those who predicted that it would affect the quality of the studio’s products were right. The most recent TV series set in the MCU turned out to be a complete and utter failure, and there were many reasons for its downfall.
Secret Invasion had all of our hopes quite high. Not only did the show have a phenomenal star-studded cast led by none other than Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, but it promised a fresh take on the Universe. Instead of flashy superheroes, Secret Invasion offered a grim and down-to-earth spy thriller, which was new.
We can’t lie, we were with the majority of fans on this series — and expected it to be a great turning point for the whole franchise. Sadly, Secret Invasion didn’t live up to the pedestal that was built for it in the audience’s eyes, and the “unique experience” it ended up providing was generally a unique disappointment and nothing else.
There were many issues with this series, from a weak plot and uncompelling characters to overused CGI and a boring and bland setting. However, it was clear that it was the creators’ fault…or so we thought. That it was clear, that is.
Apparently, some of the viewers decided to pin the blame on Emilia Clarke, who played the Skrull leader G’iah in the series. Sure, her character was poorly written, and the actress’s talents had next to no time to shine in Secret Invasion. How is that Emilia’s fault, though? As an actress, Clarke decided to openly stand up for herself.
“If people don’t like something I’ve done or a choice the franchise I’m in has made, we’ve already done it. So there’s not much I can do,” Clarke told Cave Comic.
The actress’s fans immediately came to her defense. Most of them are asking the most logical question in this situation: if a character is written terribly, has too little screen time, and is generally misused, how come is it the actor’s fault? These kinds of accusations should be addressed to the writers or the director, instead.
Or are we missing something?
