Emily (Lily Collins) smiling collaged with Emily and Marcello sightseeing on a vespa in Emily in Paris season 4, part 2Emily in Paris season 4, part 2’s ending sets up a huge upheaval for the show’s fifth outing by shifting Emily Cooper’s (Lily Collins) professional endeavors from Paris to Rome, Italy. The season may pick up where Emily in Paris season 4, part 1’s ending leaves off, but it winds up in a totally different place. Over Christmas, Emily breaks things off with Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), creating a rift between the two characters that seeps into the finale. After finally receiving his long-awaited Michelin star, Gabriel calls Emily, who’s away in Rome with her new beau, Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini).

Marcello is also the heir to his family business — a business known for making the world’s finest cashmere clothing and accessories. Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), who spends the first half of the season looking after Laurent G’s (Arnaud Binard) daughter, Genevieve (Thalia Besson), wants to stop Marcello from selling to JVMA. When the head of Agency Grateau appears in Rome, it causes friction between Emily and Marcello, but, ultimately, Emily impresses Marcello’s mother. The meeting cements the agency’s future with the business, Emily’s relationship with Marcello, and, in a bold twist, Emily in Paris season 5’s move to Rome.

Why Emily Stays In Rome At The End Of Season 4

Agency Grateau Lands The Deal But Needs To Open A Rome Office

In Emily in Paris season 4, part 2’s penultimate episode, Emily takes a much-deserved trip to Rome to visit Marcello, her latest love interest. After things go south with Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) and Gabriel, Emily decides to keep her personal and professional lives separate — so much so that she isn’t forthcoming about her vacation destination when Sylvie asks. Although Marcello plays coy at first, Emily learns from Sylvie that he’s the heir to a renowned family business, Umberto Muratori, which makes fine cashmere clothing and accessories. Sylvie is very keen on acquiring Umberto Muratori, prompting her to meddle.

When it comes time to pick a head of the agency’s Rome office, Sylvie selects Emily.

When Sylvie shows up at Emily’s hotel and asks Marcello for a meeting, Emily’s not-quite-boyfriend leaves in a huff. Ever-persistent, Emily heads to Marcello’s hometown, which is located just outside of Rome, and meets his mother. The Umberto Muratori matriarch explains that they’ve never used a marketing firm; instead, their customers find their fine clothing. After spending the day with Marcello’s family, Emily pitches him on the idea of Agency Grateau, insisting that selling the cashmere company to JVMA is a terrible decision. Luckily for Emily, Marcello’s mom overhears Emily’s pitch and agrees to a meeting.

Luc (Bruno Gouery) and Julien (Samuel Arnold) fly to Rome to help Sylvie and Emily present to Umberto Muratori. Although Marcello’s mother is impressed by the firm’s passion and understanding of their brand, she calls out the fact that Agency Grateau doesn’t have a real office in Rome. Ultimately, Sylvie seals the deal, but promises to set up a satellite office in Italy as part of the 6-month contract. When it comes time to pick a head of the agency’s Rome office, Sylvie selects Emily. “She can’t speak French either, and that didn’t stop her,” Sylvie reminds the team.

Why Emily Breaks Up With Gabriel & Her Future With Marcello Explained

The Couple Cement Their Relationship In Emily In Paris Season 4’s Finale

Forced to spend Christmas with Gabriel and Camille (Camille Razat), Emily is pushed to her limits. Realizing that Gabriel will always put the soon-to-be mother of his child first, Emily puts her needs first and breaks up with the chef. When Emily leaves Camille’s family home, she runs into Alfie in Paris. While the first half of the season left viewers wondering what happened to Alfie, part two reveals that he’s in a serious relationship with someone new. With that, Emily in Paris‘ long-standing love triangle comes crashing down.

While on holiday with Gabriel and Camille, Emily found herself stranded at the top of the slopes, terrified (and unable) to ski after her group. That’s when she first meets Marcello, who kindly guides Emily down the mountain. Back in Paris, Emily is forced to work with Gabriel — and that’s when their break-up is really cemented. In French, Gabriel berates Emily, claiming everything is on her terms, including the language they speak. The harrowing moment pushes Emily and Gabriel’s relationship from the show’s forefront.

All 5 episodes of Emily in Paris season 4, part 2 are now streaming on Netflix.

By chance, Emily runs into Marcello again. After spending time together in Paris, the couple agree that they should meet up in Rome. Although they’re forced to navigate the intersection of personal and professional, Emily and Marcello ultimately cement their relationship in Emily in Paris season 4, part 2’s finale. Although Emily doesn’t move to Rome for Marcello, it’s certainly a nice turn of events for the new couple.

Are Camille & Gabriel Over For Good?

Camille Isn’t Seen For Most Of Season 4 Part 2

After four seasons of drama, it seems like Camille and Gabriel are officially over. In the season opener, Gabriel spends Christmas with Camille’s family; everyone is excited about the baby, and it seems like there might be a lingering spark between the former couple, especially since Camille and Gabriel have been in each other’s lives for so long. When Emily breaks up with Gabriel over complications stemming from Camille and the baby, Camille decides it’s finally time to clear the air. Although Gabriel is disappointed by the news, he takes Camille’s false positive in stride.

Back in Paris, Camille and Gabriel go on a lunch date, but Camille surprises her ex-boyfriend by setting up a meeting with a local priest. The man of the cloth advises the not-couple on adoption. While Camille seems invested in having a child, Gabriel is not enthused in the slightest. Camille eventually admits that it’s been hard for her to let go of the idea of their future together. Unlike Alfie, Camille does say a quick “goodbye” to Emily before moving, and even tells her about the adoption plan, but she pretty much disappears by episode 3.

What Happens To Mindy’s Eurovision Dream

Mindy Is Disqualified From The Contest But Finds New Musical Success

Unfortunately, Emily in Paris doesn’t give Mindy a Eurovision story after all. For the first few episodes of the season, Mindy (Ashley Park) is still trying to cobble together enough money for the contest. To her boyfriend Nicolas de Léon’s (Paul Forman) dismay, Mindy lands an incredible gig headlining at a topless cabaret bar. Instead of being supportive, Nico acts like Mindy’s decisions are ruining his chances at taking over his father’s business, JVMA. It doesn’t help that Nico is still jealous of Mindy’s bandmate, Benoît (Kevin Dias).

After Mindy breaks up with Nico, the backstabbing CEO-wannabe uses Mindy’s Eurovision song in a commercial…

When a promotional Eurovision photo spread that heavily features Mindy and Benoît hits the newsstands, Nico asks Mindy to drop out of Eurovision and cancel her gig at the bar. Much like Mindy’s father, Nico cares more about his image than what Mindy actually wants. After Mindy breaks up with Nico, the backstabbing CEO-wannabe uses Mindy’s Eurovision song in a commercial, which disqualifies her band. Looking to feel better, Mindy joins Emily in Rome, where she’s struck by inspiration. Mindy’s original song, “Beautiful Ruins,” goes viral after she performs it to onlookers in a piazza.

Gabriel’s Michelin Star Explained

Gabriel Calls Emily To Share The News

While Emily is off enjoying her Roman holiday, Genevieve, who’s working at Agency Grateau, informs Gabriel of some exciting news. Despite all the ups and downs and “insider dining” that plagued the first half of the season, Gabriel is finally getting his long-awaited Michelin star. Genevieve, Alfie, and others stop by the restaurant to celebrate Gabriel, but the one person he really wants to talk to is Emily. Although she misses Gabriel’s call, Emily leaves him a voicemail, congratulating him in French. The heartwarming moment prompts Gabriel to ask Mindy where, exactly, he can find Emily in Rome.

How Emily In Paris Season 4 Sets Up Season 5’s Rome Setting

The Show Sets Up Its Characters’ Connections To Italy

As the “All Roads Lead to Rome” title implies, the Netflix series manages to convincingly give most of Emily in Paris‘ cast of characters a reason to either move to or visit Rome. While Emily will be heading up the Italian branch of Agency Grateau, Sylvie has reignited an old flame from decades ago in the Eternal City. Although Mindy is headed overseas to judge a singing competition after her newfound stardom, she tells Emily to save her a room in her Roman apartment. Even Gabriel seems ready to catch a plane to Italy in Emily in Paris season 5.
