In a complete turn of events, Emily will no longer be in Paris in the next season of the Netflix show – she’s managed to bag a huge client in Rome and is relocating there with her gorgeous new boyfriend, Marcello. Sylvie announced the new branch opening in Rome which Emily will be leading – how exciting!
Showrunner Darren Star has spoken out about why he made the drastic change to move Emily from Paris to Rome – it’s literally the title of the show after all. In an interview with TVLine, he said that he’s excited to explore new plot lines and cultural changes after four seasons in the same city and “expand the universe of the show.”
He continued to explain the decision: “Just at the point that Emily has gotten comfortable in Paris, she’s sort of thrown into another country where she’s going to experience some cultural differences. And also, I think there’s cultural differences to explore — and we do — between French and Italians. It’s a whole new world, but it doesn’t mean that we’re leaving Paris.”
Things really seemed to be looking up for Emily in the season four finale of Emily in Paris: She had a new country to explore, got a new Italian boyfriend, received an amazing new job offer and left all the Alfie and Gabriel drama in the past.
However, just because she’s moved out of Paris, doesn’t mean she’s moved on completely from her Parisian men. Gabriel seemed very moved by Emily’s French voice note to him, and it seems pretty likely he’ll be making an appearance to win her back if the show gets renewed. I live for the drama!!
