Fallout fans found themselves firing up the hype train over an unexpected new teaser at The Game Awards last night, and we can see why.
It’s been a heck of a year to be a Fallout fan. Fallout 76 has gone from strength to strength with some incredible new updates, and a huge 2025 on the horizon. We’ve also had the Fallout TV series, which launched to massive success and took the prize for Best Adaptation at The Game Awards.
Heading up on stage to accept the award, Fallout executive producer Jonathan Nolan briefly addressed the, uh, fallout to the show’s first season. Specifically, the controversy over whether or not the show retconned fan-favourite game New Vegas.
Without spoiling anything for those of you who have yet to watch the show, there’s one development partway through the series that many took to mean the events of New Vegas never actually happened. Nolan has denied this, but the saltiness remains.
Anyway, while accepting the award Nolan thanked New Vegas fans for “not burning down my house”, before adding: “you’ll be thankful you didn’t.”
It’s worth noting that the end of the first season made it pretty clear we’re headed to New Vegas in season two, and recent leaked set photos confirm some familiar locations from the video game.
“Season two going to have new Vegas vibes? That’ll make the fans HAPPY,” wrote one Twitter user.
Another added on Reddit: “I will be pleasantly surprised if they manage to make a satisfying canon ending for New Vegas.”
Unfortunately Nolan’s comments also reignited the initial complaints about how New Vegas was treated in the first series, because some people have so little in life to complain about, I guess.
“If you don’t want us to burn your house, don’t burn our house,” wrote one user who I’m sure is very normal and super chill about things usually.
