When George Lucas stepped away from Star Wars, many fans felt that the new creative teams, especially those behind the sequel trilogy and standalone films, strayed from his original vision. This shift sparked mixed reactions and controversy over the franchise’s direction.

Although Kathleen Kennedy is often blamed for many of the issues, Dave Filoni is frequently hailed as the “savior” of Star Wars.

Dave Filoni is widely acclaimed for his deep understanding of the Star Wars universe, having worked closely with George Lucas and demonstrated a strong grasp of the franchise’s lore, themes, and characters. His animated projects are considered some of the most beloved in the franchise.

However, not all fans share this enthusiasm. Some argue that Filoni is not the franchise’s savior and, instead, has contributed to its decline. A Reddit user has voiced concerns, pointing out that Filoni’s role in The Clone Wars may be overstated, as major creative decisions were made by Lucas. They criticize Filoni’s writing for its repetitive characters, inconsistent tone, and weak worldbuilding, and suggest that his ego prioritizes his own characters over the broader Star Wars universe. Additionally, they argue that Filoni’s live-action directing has been lackluster, with issues in performance and plot.

The majority of the comments went in another direction:

He’s not the savior of Star Wars because it’s never been in particular need of saving. But I enjoy his contributions to the franchise and will likely continue to do so.

Amazing. Every word of what you just said was wrong.

Really glad you aren’t in charge and I disagree with most of your points. I’ve enjoyed what he directed live action and wrote. Also, every time I’ve seen him interviewed, he never comes across as egotistical. He comes across as a huge lover of Star Wars. I’m glad Filoni is so involved.

Have you heard him speak? What ego are you talking about? What makes you an expert on writing, and enough of using these general statements about good vs bad writing. Everything you said was so far off it’s so insanely mind-boggling.

Filoni has his flaws but there’s nobody more qualified to lead star wars right now.

And no, Andor has the lowest viewership of all shows, so Tony Gilroy isn’t that guy

Regardless of which side you support in this debate, it’s clear that many people who disagree with the original poster have not provided any supporting arguments for their stance.
