The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is the biggest single-narrative cinematic universe out there. Regardless of whether you like these movies or not, and despite the fact that the MCU has had a string of failed projects until recently, the universe is still going strong and is evolving in a proper way, which makes a lot of fans happy.
Following the recent successful projects – namely Deadpool & Wolverine and Agatha All Along – Marvel has made an update to their official timeline, which places the new shows on the timeline and reveals when they are taking place when compared to the other projects. Keep reading for more information!
As we’ve said, Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU) has just updated its timeline following the releases of Deadpool and Wolverine and Agatha All Along in 2024.
Agatha All Along, a spinoff of WandaVision, was released on Disney+ in September and October. It focuses on Kathryn Hahn’s character, Agatha Harkness, as she leads a new coven of witches on their journey through the Witches’ Road. Both of these projects are positioned near the end of Marvel’s official timeline, as you can see here.
According to Marvel.com, Deadpool and Wolverine is placed right after the events of What If…? season 2, which follows Loki season 2. Agatha All Along is set after Deadpool and Wolverine, making it the latest MCU release to date.
The MCU has a specific timeline that helps fans keep track of all the movies and shows, even though the release order doesn’t always match the timeline. For example, Captain America: The First Avenger takes place during World War II in 1942, making it the earliest in the timeline. After that, Captain Marvel is set in 1995.
While the timeline update isn’t surprising for these two recent projects, the future of the MCU is filled with questions.
After the Golden Globe nominations, which listed Agatha All Along as a comedy series, many believe there might be a second season coming. Kathryn Hahn expressed excitement at the idea, saying she’d be thrilled to return. As for Deadpool, Reynolds hinted that Wade Wilson might become more of a supporting character in future MCU films.
Looking ahead, Deadpool and Wolverine and Agatha All Along will be followed by upcoming releases. These include Captain America: Brave New World on February 14, 2025, and Thunderbolts* on May 2, 2025. These movies will most likely be set after the events of Deadpool and Wolverine and Agatha All Along, with Avengers: Doomsday following on May 1, 2026.
Other MCU projects coming soon include What If…? season 3 on December 22, 2024, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on January 29, 2025, and Daredevil: Born Again on March 4, 2025. Fans can also expect Ironheart on June 24, 2025, The Fantastic Four: First Steps on July 25, 2025, and Eyes of Wakanda on August 6, 2025. The MCU’s next big events are set to be Avengers: Doomsday on May 1, 2026, followed by Spider-Man 4 on July 24, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027.
The recent updates to the timeline show how much the MCU has expanded and how it continues to keep track of its growing universe. With new shows and movies constantly being added, it’ll be interesting to see where these new titles fit in the bigger picture.
