Epic Games, the maker of Fortnite, is being forced to hand out over $100 to thousands of players following an FTC ruling.

This is in response to the FTC finding that Epic Games coerced, or tricked, players into spending money on V-Bucks through the Fortnite shop.

LEGO Fortnite now has a lifestyle adventure game as part of the ecosystem, called Brick Life.

The refund pot the FTC is overseeing is worth around £72 million and will be sent out to over 600,000 people.

This is only made available to players who believe they were fooled into spending money when they didn’t need to, between the dates of January 2017 and September 2022.

Players are now starting to receive these refunds and there’s a simple way to check if you’re eligible.

Refunds are arriving via PayPal or cheque and will be sent out in batches.

You will need to apply to the FTC directly in order to stake your claim, then, once payments have been sent to you, you’ll need to claim them within 30 days.

It’s worth noting, you need to be 18 or over to file a claim, and you’ll need your Epic account ID.

Above all, you’ll have to supply proof of the following;

You were charged in-game currency for items you didn’t want between January 2017 and September 2022
Your child made charges to your credit card without your knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018

Your account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after you complained to your credit card company about wrongful charges

This claim is for US Fortnite players only.

Payments will continue to roll out through 2025, but you can only receive a refund if you qualify – let’s be honest, it’s worth the time, just in case.

At the time of the ruling, Epic Games stated, “We accepted this agreement because we want Epic to be at the forefront of consumer protection and provide the best experience for our players.”
