‘Game of Thrones’ is one of the most successful shows in television history, breaking all sorts of records. But if you ask many fans, it’s also the one with the most disappointing ending due to a variety of factors including Martin’s inability to wrap up the story on time.

Due to the show’s initial success, it’s not surprising that numerous spinoffs were born from it. Some are in active development and some were ultimately shelved.

HBO has been working on several potential ‘Game of Thrones’ successor series since 2017. Initially, they commissioned five prequel ideas, but many were abandoned, and some were based on material from ‘Fire & Blood.’

Notable projects include ‘House of the Dragon,’ a series about House Targaryen’s downfall, which was greenlit in 2019 and premiered in August 2022. Other spin-offs in development include ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,’ based on Martin’s ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg,’ and an animated series based on ‘The Sea Snake.’ Additionally, a Jon Snow sequel and other projects like ‘10,000 Ships’ have also been explored.

It seems that Martin is cooking up something new at least according to the author himself as he recently met with Maisie Williams who portrayed Arya Stark in all seasons of the show to talk about the project.

Martin did not reveal any details so as not to jinx the project, but he did mention that it could be a lot of fun:

We also got together with Maisie Williams for pizza and pasta, and talked about… well, no, better not get into that, do not want to jinx it . But it could be so much fun.

After the ‘Game of Thrones’ finale, Arya Stark sets off on a journey of exploration. In the final scenes of the show, Arya decides to sail west of Westeros to explore unknown lands. Considering the mysterious nature of her journey, if the project is about that fans can imagine that it would be very intriguing and provide the franchise as a whole with a lot more fantastical elements.
