Last Christmas, I wrote a little feature about wanting Freya from God of War to get her own game.
She is easily my favourite character from the rebooted franchise titles God of War and God of War Ragnarök.
God of War Ragnarök recently dropped on PC to rapturous acclaim.
She’s an incredibly multifaceted character whose journey rivals Kratos’ own for heartbreak and growth.
It seems that actress Danielle Busitti who plays Freya in the Sony exclusive is eager to take on the role again, even in her own title.
At MCM Birmingham recently, Busitti was asked if she’d ever play the role again, perhaps in a standalone title from Santa Monica Studios.
She answered, “I would love to see where her relationship with Kratos goes — such a beautiful friendship forged from grief and transformation.”
Hinting at her willingness to perform again for the studio, she said, “Whenever Santa Monica Studios says to me: ‘Let’s explore more of Freya’.”
Giving Freya her own game, even if it was a much shorter adventure, would allow the studio and Busitti to explore that grief at a much deeper level.
Not only that, but it would bring another character to the foreground of the series allowing the franchise to breathe a little more.
Sadly, we have no idea if this will ever come to pass.
Nor do we have any information on when we’ll see God of War make a return.
I’m pretty confident that something is in the works currently, as the second game of the rebooted franchise did end on somewhat of a cliffhanger.
While Busitti appeared on a panel with other actors from the game, including Christopher Judge who plays Kratos, there was no mention of a new game.
Even if the Freya-centric game never materialises, I’m eager for more God of War, so hopefully we’ll get some news on the future of the series very soon.
