Florida prosecutors have revealed unsettling new details in the murder of a teenage girl who allegedly died at the hands of her jealous ex-boyfriend.

Cameron Cubel, 16, has been indicted by a grand jury on a charge of first-degree murder for the ‘tragic’ death of Abbriella Elliott, whose remains were found at the Cypress Lake Preserve on March 27, the state attorney’s office announced.

‘Cubel unlawfully and from a premeditated design murdered Abbriella Faye Elliott by inflicting multiple sharp force injuries causing her to die,’ it said on April 17.

The prosecutor’s office added that the teenager ‘remains in custody on no-bond status in a juvenile detention facility. He will later be transferred to Hernando County and tried as an adult.’

Authorities have previously described the ‘violent’ scene they came across after a hiker stumbled upon Elliott’s remains – in a case that is now being compared to the hit Netflix series Adolescence.

‘We could tell pretty quickly that there was a lot of passion and a lot of violence involved in the particular death,’ Sheriff Al Nienhuis of the Hernando County Police Department said at a news conference last month.

‘So we were relatively confident that it wasn’t a random act,’ he added. ‘It was nothing short of very violent.’

He added that Elliott was likely killed with an ‘edged weapon’ – though police have not yet confirmed what that may have been.

As investigators worked to piece together the scene, a witness – who had also reported Elliott missing – approached officers and revealed that the girl had left home in the middle of the night, around 1.30am, to meet with someone.

‘We were relatively confident almost immediately that she went to go meet an individual who was likely the person who killed her,’ Nienhuis said.

Based on the the witness’s admission, officers were able to identify the body as that  of Elliott.

Officers then began conducting ‘old-fashioned police work’, going door to door to gather information and dozens of interviews, both formal and informal.

Additionally, officers combed through electronics and social media, securing search warrants and preservation orders to gather crucial evidence.

During their investigation, authorities discovered that Cubel, one of the individuals they interviewed, had lied about where he was the night of the murder.

Cameron, who has a prior battery charge, was named the primary suspect and was taken into custody the following day in connection with Abbriella’s murder.

Abbriella’s parents later explained that Cubel was their daughter’s ex-boyfriend, with the two having broken up roughly six to eight months ago, KHOU News reported.

‘My granddaughter Abby didn’t have a chance to grow into what your supposed to be,’ Abbriella’s grandmother told the Hernando Sun. ‘Her ex-boyfriend took that from her.’

Elliott’s cousin June Marie also described Cubel to DailyMail.com as ‘jealous that she had moved on,’ claiming that he stabbed the victim a total of 35 times.

‘She agreed to meet him and he had already planned to kill her apparently,’ she said.

That is consistent with what classmates told DailyMail.com, describing the teenager as having a ‘bad temper’ and a lot of girlfriends he wanted to ‘own’.

Cubel, the three classmates said, would often make girls cry, would be furious if he saw them talking to other boys and often got into fights over his romantic relationships.

‘He had girlfriends, but he was the type to want to own them,’ says one of his 16-year-old track teammates, whom the Daily Mail is not naming because of his age.

‘Like he would get jealous if they talked to anyone else. I saw him make his girlfriends cry because he was yelling at them.’

‘He had a bad temper I remember,’ the teammate added. ‘One time he got in a fight with a kid from the other school because he thought he overheard the kid talking s*** about him. They had to be separated.’

Abbriella had celebrated her 16th birthday just weeks before she was killed

A second classmate also told the Daily Mail that Cubel had no trouble getting girlfriends —but often had trouble keeping them.

‘He had a bad reputation,’ says the classmate, who shared several classes with Cubel when they were both students at D.S. Parrott Middle School in 2022.

‘He was like a bad boyfriend and girls knew that, so if they were his girlfriend, they would get tired of him and would break up with him.’

A third classmate described Cubel as having a simmering anger.

‘He could be really quiet,’ says the third classmate, who occasionally sat near Cubel during lunch. ‘but when he was in a bad mood, everyone knew it. It showed on his face, like he’d be really mad.’

Meanwhile, an online fundraiser that was set up to help raise funds for Elliott’s memorial describes her as being ‘loved by every person that met her.

‘She was always smiling and singing and acting goofy, and she had so much life ahead of her,’ the fundraising page said.

It had raised nearly $11,000 before the organizer disabled any further donations.

Family members also described Elliott as a ‘a bubbly outgoing smart beautiful little girl’ who celebrated her birthday just two weeks before she was murdered.

In the show, the two teens also knew each other, similar to Elliott and Cubel. Additionally, both attacks were described as ‘violent’.

Cubel now faces a possible sentence of life in prison if were to be convicted of Elliott’s murder, with State Attorney Bill Gladson saying it was easy to decide to charge him as an adult.

‘When you’re a juvenile and you commit an adult crime, you get charged as an adult,’ he said.
