Harry Potter fans are divided as to who should play the new Voldemort in the upcoming series from HBO.

It’s also going to be a tough act to follow when it comes to any new casting for a popular character in the Harry Potter series. It’s why whoever comes in to replace Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, respectively, could end up being a cursed chalice.

Whoever does attempt to fill those voids, we hope that all the actors knock it out of the park and I’m sure that they will. Another actor that leaves big shoes to fill is Ralph Fiennes’ Lord Voldemort.

Fans on Reddit have been discussing who should play the next dark lord and it’s fair to say, that it’s not exactly clear-cut.

“These are the actors that my head constantly goes to for Voldemort. I would say Cillian Murphy and Benedict Cumberbatch are my top two, but I think a lot of these options would be great,” said DALTT, kicking off the discussion on the thread. “I think Andy Serkis is a bit more of an outside-the-box option, but he’s so good with highly physical character acting,” they concluded.

“Tom Hiddleston for me. He has a creep inside of him,” suggested victoryabonbon.

“Paul Bettany would be so perfect,” said Theaterkid01.

“I think Matt Smith would be an amazing Voldemort,” Splunkmastah replied.

“My top choice is still Andrew Scott (Moriarty from Sherlock BBC) Loustifer24 proposed.

Very few details are known about the upcoming Harry Potter TV series such as its synopsis but hopefully, information will arrive in the coming months. At the time of writing, there is also currently no release date but it is expected to arrive sometime in 2026.
